  2. Compare/Contrast • Your assignment is to compare the two short stories : “The Most Dangerous Game” and “A Sound of Thunder” The title of the essay should reflect you main idea. Remember that all authors write with a purpose. Your purpose is to show how these stories use the same literary elements and compare any differences in the authors’ uses of those elements.

  3. Compare/Contrast • You should discuss in separate paragraphs the following literary elements in your essay • Conflict- what kinds of conflict are found in each of the two stories? Use examples from the text in the form of quotes to back up your claim. • Characters- what kinds of characters appear in each story? Are round, flat, static, or dynamic? Are they evil or good? Be specific. • Compare General Zaroff and Eckels. How are they alike? How are they different? • Compare Rainsford and Travis. How are they both heroic? How are they different?

  4. Compare/Contrast • Plot • Discuss in a paragraph the two plots of the stories. • How are they similar? • How are they different? • Do both authors use foreshadowing ? If so, where and how?

  5. Format and Length • Format • Your paper is to be typed in Times New Roman font and should be in 12 point type. • Your paper should be double spaced. • Length • Your paper should be 1 ½ -2 pages minimum. You will be deducted points for papers that are less than 1 ½ pages. • Try not to exceed the 2 page limit.

  6. Deadline • The deadline for the rough draft, or first draft of this essay, is tomorrow. What you do not finish in class you will have to finish for homework. • Late papers will be deducted 10 points for each day the paper is late, (not counting the weekend) • Friday, you will exchange your typed rough drafts with your peers for editing and proofreading.
