Texans Take Up Arms - 1832 • Juan Davis Bradburn – “The Bully” • Bradburn arrests Travis and Jack • Rebellion at Anahuac • Turtle Bayou Resolutions • Bradburn ignores the Constitution of 1824 • They support Santa Anna • Bloodshed at Velasco • Fired on Mexican fort. • Want reform, not rebellion (at his point)

Reform Movements – 1832-1833 • Civil War in Mexico and Santa Anna takes control • The Convention of 1832 • October 1, 1832 • Governor Musquiz listens but………….. • The Convention of 1833 • April 1, 1833 • Better mail • Reform courts • English in business and law • Texas becomes a STATE of Mexico (NOT independent)

Austin Changes His Mind • July 1833 – Austin in Mexico City • Farias in charge – does nothing • Austin write angry letter to the ayuntamiento of San Antonio to start work on state government without Mexican approval • Austin meets with Santa Anna August 1833 • Yes to more immigration • No to separate statehood. • Austin jailed because of letter • Santa Anna takes over government
