LPS PLTW Journey 2006 – Digital Electronics • Trained 3 Electronics teachers and piloted first PLTW course at Lincoln East, Lincoln High, Lincoln Northeast 2009 – 2010—Introduction to Engineering Design • Trained 9 additional teachers and added additional PLTW course in all six LPS high schools. Implementing and integrating two PLTW courses throughout LPS Industrial Technology departments

  5. LPS PLTW Journey • 2009-2011 • National PLTW certification for LPS to establish dual credit opportunities. LPS was certified in February, 2011. Continue to work with UNL • 2011 – Civil Engineering and Architecture • In 2011 LPS trained 6 teachers in Civil Engineering and Architecture. It was the first PLTW training offered in our state and was held at Lincoln Southwest High School • 2012 • Continue to evaluate, integrate and implement additional PLTW curriculum

  11. In Joana’s own words . . . • My father is a custodian at Everett Elementary School. He works full time as a year-round custodian. My mother works at McDonald's and has worked there for almost 13 years. • Growing up in Mexico, my parents didn't get to go to high school as my mom only got to finish middle school and my father finished most of elementary school. Soon, I will get to be the first to graduate from high school and attend college. • I would like to make my parent’s dream of me graduating from both high school and college happen. I would like to make them proud because of what they have done for us to make a better life than what they had.

Joanna continues . . . • Taking advanced Math classes and ITE classes like Introduction to Engineering and Design (CAD IED 1 and 2), Advanced Civil Engineering and Architecture (Adv CAD CEA), Foundations of Industrial Technology, and Furniture Construction, I have been inspired to be an Engineer. • Each one of us has our own strengths and talents; mine would be Math and Art. I hope to use my Math and creativity in the future for a possible career in Engineering. I have been admitted to the UNL College of Engineering and will begin in the fall of 2011. • We plan to follow Joana and 50 or more other LPS grads that are attending UNL college of engineering and Architecture.

  16. Lincoln Public SchoolsAdvisory Team Make up • 6 members with technical knowledge such as engineers, architects, and human resource representatives • 1 parent • All PLTW teachers should be involved in the process • 2 counselors • 1 PLTW student • 2 district administrators

Lincoln Public SchoolsAdvisory Team Direction • Provide assistance to enhance the curriculum and instruction of the program • Explore articulation agreements and college credit options with local post-secondary institutions • Provide assistance in address issues such as student recruitment and retention, career guidance, mentoring and internships • Provides a system of community advocacy for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) • Provides recommendation for professional development for PLTW faculty • Provides additional resources to students and teachers
