  3. This is the scene where Jane is bullied by her cousin John Reed and sent to the Red Room. “‘Take her away to the red-room, and lock her on there’”(Bronte 5).

  4. SCENE TWO Lowood instituteSelena- HelenYasmin- JaneJacob- ownerMikaela – Miss Temple

  5. this is where Jane meets Helen “‘Were I in her place, it seems to me I should wish the earth to open and swallow me up. She looks as if she were thinking of something beyond her punishment- beyond her situation: of something not round her nor before her’” (Bronte 44).

  6. this is where Helen dies “I was not reprimanded for leaving my bed; people had something else to think about; no explanation was afforded then to my many questions; but a day or two afterwards I learned that Miss Temple, on returning to hr own room at dawn, had found me laid in a little crib; m face against Helen Burns’s shoulder, my arms round her neck. I was asleep, and Helen was-- dead” (Bronte 74).

Rochester flirts with Blanche in front of Jane “If she did, she need not coin her smiles so lavishly, flash he glances so unremittingly, manufacture airs so elaborate, graces so multitudinous’ (Bronte 175). “It seems to me that she might, by merely sitting quietly at his side saying little and looking less, get nigher his heart”(Bronte 175).

  9. Rochester admits his love for Jane “‘ But, Jane, I summon you as my wife: it is you only I intend to marry’” (Bronte 241).

  10. Bertha tears Jane’s nice, silk wedding veil “‘But presently she took my veil from its place: she held it up, gazed at it long, and then, she threw it over her own head, and turned to the mirror ..sir, it removed my veil from its gaunt head, rent it in two parts, and flinging both on the floor, trampled on them’” (Bronte 269-270).

  11. at the alter, Mason objects to the wedding because Rochester is trying to commit bigamy, and he finally reveals he has a wife…Jane runs away “I affirm and can prove that on the 20th of October, A.D.- (a date of fifteen years back), Edward Fairfax Rochester, of Thornfield Hall, in the country of…was married to my sister, Bertha Antoinetta Mason…” (Bronte 276).

  13. they invite Jane in and she later shares her fortune with her newfound cousins “Indeed you shall stay here,’ said Diana putting her white hand on my head. ‘You shall’ repeated Mary…” (Bronte 332).

  14. St. John tries to marry Jane and move to India as a missionary “ ‘God and nature intended you for a missionary’s wife. It is not personal, but mental endowments they have given you: you are formed for labour, not for love. A missionary’s wife you must- shall be. You shall be mine: I claim you- not for my pleasure, but for my Sovereign’s service’” (Bronte 384).

  16. Scene Five • Jane and Rochester meet up and get married “ I married him” (Bronte 429). “A quiet wedding we had: he and I, the parson and clerk, were alone present” (Bronte 429).

  17. THE END Jane and Rochester live happily ever after…
