  5. sNN dependence of energy loss Vertesi talk yesterday PRL101, 232301 • Filling in low Q2 • Large Mid pT Suppression RAA @ 39 GeV unlike big Cronin-like GLV • RAA at 62 GeV approaches 200 GeV level at high pT • RHIC RAA tuning overshoots LHC Suppression This is what we’ve been waiting for: work underway but can simple perturbative models fit the details?

  6. Direct Photon Baseline • Continually making updates to 200 GeV RAA’s • Au+Au & Cu+Cu • Direct Photons Long standing issue w/ baseline updated!!! arXiv: 1205:5759 !!! “Shadowing”CNM effect not large? BaldoSahlmueller Poster this afternoon —see him for orders

  7. Cu+Cu,… (Light) Direct g Cu+Cu 200 GeV • Some evidence here too • Peripheral Jet? More about that later… Also recent HF electron RAA in Cu+Cu • Cu+Cu : Light Ion test (singular) • different interplay of cold and hot effects • different geometry vs density (e.g. “core-corona”) • Just one?  Cu+Au… Community’s job not be finished until systematics known across several ion sizes • My point: in addition to fitting LHC Pbvs RHIC Au, Eloss models, (esp CNM parts) PHENIX Cu data could provide large dataset constraints that could already be breaking simplest standard/radiative picture RHIC!!! • We need a Cu+Cu T Shirt!!!!! (X+X?!!!)

  8. Other updates - why?full species systematics • Similar motivation for full exploration of various hadronic flavors  High pT from fragmentation region • Geometry/Density/CNM • Recent Strangeness results

  9. An even wider body of data should be considered—e.g. other geometries • PHENIX is continually refining Cu+Cu • Enter Cu+Au@ RHIC Conclusion 1 In particular CNM effects

  10. Cold Nuclear Matter Effects • You can’t understand the whole outfit till you understand what’s hiding underneath… • Important for interpretation of HI data • Measure Cold Nuclear Matter (CNM) effects in d+Au collisions • Versatility RHIC

  15. A more detailed look at the design patterns: a status report • Two particle correlations • vn measurements • jet-medium interactions? • Relating 2-particle correlations to Reco Jets • Gamma-Jet Hadrons vs Jet-Hadrons Corrs. Reco Jets? 2p?

A word about vn • Input for 2-p:  h gap no jet  2p w/ jet • Focused on characterizing bulk vnesp n != 2 -- new larger Run10 statistics data analysis underway • Next: focus on high pT behavior @ RHIC (non-0 v3?) • Also Heavy Flavor w/ new electron capabilities (62 GeV) • Constrain… high pT v2 (vn) path length analysis: RHIC vs LHC HBD!!!   17. Using new flow bkg model, and ZYAM for comparison Central: w/ v3 subtraction humps largely disappear On awayside pure suppression / periph still something? On Nearside correlation is p+p like in shape? Both conclusions are still inconclusive since no v1 modulation is considered! TODO! 2-p correlation w/jet (small Dh)

  18. w/ alternate ABS bkg Norm 200GeV Au+Au 0-20%, inc.g-had. • Different choice of normalization • Awayside shape conclusion same… • But BIG PEDESTAL! Jet medium hiding underneath? • Note: p+p is using ZYAM: TODO: REALLY TEST ABS RELIABILITY! • “Correlated Underlying Event “ medium modification? Take Home: Still working to test jet-medium w/ some definiteness

YnDependence in 2-p 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 • One important test of hydro flow picture is can it explain 2-p trigger “reaction plane” dependence (Y2) • Reminder Cone/Shoulder was independent of f-Y2 • : confirmed by measured lack of Y2Y3 corr • but w/ full v3,v4 subtraction? Being careful ana underway • But now another interesting question to ask: are jet correlations dependent on higher order event planes? Jet , Trig. 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 Y3 ! Y2

  20. Y3 Dependence • Correlation Functions + Bkg Model • w/ Y3 mixing, v3 effect “removed”. no Y3 dependence? LOOK FOR FULLY SUBTRACTED RESULTS VERY SOON!

  22. Gamma-Hadron Correlations • Awayside 2-p g-h yield plotted vszT • Suppression at low ξ(high z) • High ξ , low z Enhancement? x = -lnzT

  23. Increase, maybe Enhancement • Increase at high ξ (< ~3 σsig) • Hint of enhancement IAA > 1 (< 1.3σ) • Currently trying to make this test quantitative significance w/ Run 10 • QM12!

  24. CMS = no FF modification? • CMS-PAS-HIN-11-004 • CMS no frag modification ?… only above pT track >= 4 GeV/c • It’s a Hard/Soft Division, not scaling w/ z  consistent w/ pQCD theory?

  28. Very Interesting Things Currently underway @ RHIC! Data: Au+Au@200 GeV, 2011 2012 p+p @ 200 dataset! • VTX dataset in Au+Au 2011 and 2012 p+p ! • FVTX Commisioning 2012 • RAAv2 of c, b separately Detector commissioning /p+p reference went well - FVTX

  29. “Exotic” Initial Collision Systems • U+U and Cu+Au Running On tape! U+U J/Psi Cu+Au J/Psi Fast track analysis on QM timescale! U+U vn

Conclusions • An even wider body of data should be considered—e.g. other geometries • PHENIX is continually refining Cu+Cu • Enter Cu+Au @ RHIC • CNM effects isolated in d+Au look non-trivial • Relating 2-p correlations to Eloss detailed way is just starting • Direct Photon –hadron correlations at RHIC consistent w/ Jet-h at RHIC show modification of FF below LHC kinematic cuts
