Progress to Date • Forum launched on May 22nd 2001 by founder Bracknell Forest BC • A second well attended Forum was held on November 2nd 2001 • First year sponsors were: • LDA plc • Novell • BT Ignite • Nabarro Nathanson • First year Core Group members from Local Government were: • Jayne Ward (Bracknell Forest BC) • Linda Grange (S.Bucks DC) • Charles Mattison (London Borough of Barnet) • Rob Gair (Southampton SmartCities) • John Littleton (North East Regional Smartcard Consortium) • Smartcard networking forum

Progress to Date • 158 members and rising, representing 104 organisations • We have a fully operational web site with 100,000 ‘hits’ to date: • Access to example presentations, glossary of terms, FAQ, and case studies • News and views about SmartCard developments • Reference sites • Free legal advice from Nabarro Nathanson • Opportunity to work together for joint funding, shared resources etc • Smartcard networking forum

Progress to Date • Sponsors for 2002/2003 are: • BT Ignite (Host Sponsor) • LDA plc • Capita • Scoll Methods • Prepayment Cards Ltd • Critical Mission • Funding obtained to date from Sponsors and the Novell LG User Group is £23,928.81. • Finance is managed by BFBC • Legally approved draft Constitution • Smartcard networking forum

The Constitution • The Forum is an independent organisation and is not a platform for sales or political lobbying • The Forum's objectives are to: • exchange ideas and information about the use of smart cards in local government • share implementation experiences and issues • explore the potential uses of smart cards • investigate ways of working within both public and private sector • research external funding possibilities • Smartcard networking forum

  6. The Constitution • Membership is free for non commercial organisations • Forum made up of elected full members, sponsor members and an elected Core Group: • Min of 6 and max of 10 from Local Government and up to 5 Sponsors (ref 4.2.i) • Smartcard networking forum

  7. The Constitution • Financial arrangements: • Currently BFBC is managing all financial arrangements - but may need an Honorary Treasurer • Core group has no power to borrow money or exceed current funds • Smartcard networking forum
