  1. What To Do If Birds Have Invaded Your Balcony

  2. Even if you’re a bird lover, there’s a big difference between watching birds in their own environment, and watching them make a big mess on your balcony! If you live in an apartment or other type of home that has a balcony attached, you’ll likely be familiar with pigeons perching or even nesting close to your home. While you might be a nature and animal lover, you don’t live in a bird park, and nor would you want to. Pigeons have as much right to share this planet as we do, that much is true, but they don’t belong on balconies.

  3. Measures to take if you have a bird invasion It might be that you’ve been away from the apartment or building for a few days or weeks, and pigeons have begun to feel safe on your balcony due to a lack of activity. Or you may have been inadvertently encouraging them to land there by not using the balcony frequently or taking care of it. Neglected and empty balconies are prime targets for pigeons, but worry not, there’s something simple and cost effective you can do to make sure they leave, and never come back.

  4. Firstly, contact a local netting supplier who can visit your home and assess your needs. Once they have the measurements, they will provide you with a net that can be secured in place over the front of your balcony. What’s next? Nothing. Just sit back and enjoy your balcony, free from feathers, poop and any other mess that pesky pigeons have doubtless been causing.

  5. What can happen if you don’t take action? Failure to deal with the problem when you first see pigeons using your balcony could result in nests, noisy roosting, and the even noisier raising of chicks! Not only that, but with frequent pigeon activity, you’ll have a lot of unpleasant poop to clean up. Regularly cleaning pigeon poop from your balcony (or any other type of bird droppings) is really important as it contains toxins that can be harmful to your health. Not only that, but over time, the acidic nature of guano (bird droppings) can cause your balcony to corrode and create a real health and safety hazard.

  6. Nets have other uses, too While bird invasions are annoying and can also be dangerous, balconies present a very real risk of falling for small children and pets. With a net secured on your balcony, however, not only can you enjoy the space without the presence of pigeons, but you can rest assured that nothing and no one, can ever fall over the side.

  7. Worried that a balcony net will block the light or the view? Most are wide meshed (but obviously not wide enough for a pet, object or child to fall or climb through) and when secured tautly, don’t inhibit your use or enjoyment of the space in any way at all. So, if you’ve experienced a bird invasion, have balcony nets installed as quickly as possible, so that you can safely and effectively, reclaim the space as your own.
