  3. How are students identified as Gifted?

  4. Gifted Identification • North Royalton follows Ohio law and Rule • National tests (Terra Nova, Inview) but not Ohio Proficiency or Ohio Achievement • Cognitive score (CSI) of 130 or greater • Achievement score (Terra Nova) of 95% or greater • Performance review of art, music, dance or drama

  5. Gifted Identification • Cognitive • Specific Academic (Reading, Math, Science, Social Studies) • Creative Thinking • Visual or Performing Arts (art, music, dance, drama)

  7. Selection for SERVICE North Royalton has a Cognitive program with a focus on the academic areas of Language Arts Math

  8. Primary Gifted and TalentedGrades K - 2 • Early entrance to Kindergarten • Age-appropriate differentiation strategies within the regular classroom

  9. Language Arts Options Advanced (Gifted ID) Accelerated Traditional

  10. Selection for SERVICE Grade levels of selection: • Grade 2: selected for grades 3 & 4 • Grade 4: selected for grades 5 & 6 • Grade 6: selected for grades 7 & 8 • Plus algebra placement test

Selection for SERVICEEnriched Language Arts: • Cognitive = CSI Score • CSI = 138 or higher + Reading achievement 95% or higher • CSI = 133 or higher + Reading achievement 95% or higher • CSI = 130 or higher + Reading achievement 95% or higher • CSI = 130 or higher + Reading achievement 76% or higher • CSI = 121 or higher + Reading achievement 95% or higher Earned within the 24 month period State of Ohio approved test Students selected in order, space available with parent permission

  12. Language Arts Units for Enriched Language Arts Grades 3 & 4 • Inclusion classroom • Pull-Out classroom Determined by the number of identified students 1-5 students = Inclusion classroom 6 students = Building choice 7-20 students = Pull-Out classroom

  15. Language Arts Units for Enriched Language Arts Grades 5 - 8 Pull-Out classroom Study of language arts units that: • Connect a study of literature with other content • Connect a study of literature with student life application

  19. Middle School Services Advanced Math • Students selected by set Gifted criteria • Gr. 5 – Advanced math 5/6 • Gr. 6 – Advanced math 6/7 • Gr. 7- Pre-Algebra or Algebra l • Gr. 8- Algebra l or Geometry l

  20. Example of Accelerated Math • 6th Grade Fall Terra Nova and Inview • Gifted Identification in Cognitive and/or Math from 6th grade testing • Algebra Placement Test@ 76% or greater • Students selected are guaranteed placement in both 7th grade Pre-Algebra and 8th grade Algebra l

  21. High School Services • Advanced coursework • Advanced Placement for grades 11-12 • Post secondary enrollment option for grades 9-12 • Various clubs, activities and contests of interest

  22. How has Service Selection changed in North Royalton?

  23. 3 ID areas: cognitive, reading and math Cumulative identification over time Students selected at any time they qualify Pull-out service to gifted classroom (Discovery) Selected students grandfathered for services Cognitive plus academic identification Scores within 24 month period Students selected at grades 2, 4, 6 Either pull-out or inclusion, depending upon numbers Students must requalify every two years Changes applied to Gifted Service Selection
