  1. Quick Review So Far… Woooo!

  2. What is Writing? • A PROCESS…not a single activity (not just one right way to do it)…involves many actions, steps, behaviors, thoughts, and changes (quick exerpt) • Good writing is thinking on paper  so it might start off disorderly, demanding, and frustrating…but then it turns into satisfying

  3. Vonnegut Said… • “Writers are not necessarily smart people…just patient • He discovered that writing allows even the stupidest person to seem intelligent, if that person will write the same thought over and over again, improving just a little bit each time • Anyone can do it…all it takes is time and patience

  4. Review of Anne Lamott • 1st drafts will probably suck (compared to every subsequent draft) • Even the most refined writers write “shitty” first drafts • If you don’t draft, then you don’t revise and you’re cheating yourself of what you can really produce (you’re settling for that “shitty” first draft) • Her Style? How do you know?

  5. Additional Notes: • When revising, you will catch ineffective repetitions, redundancies, weak verbs, contradictions, weak voice, weird POV shifts, organizational mistakes, etc. • Plus old ideas inspire new, unique ones • Keep writing, even when you think it isn’t good…something good will come from it, even if it’s just a couple of sentences (revise later!)
