  1. Project Overview Literacy, Assessment for and of Learning and ICT Learning Areas Levels Age 9 and 10 Objectives To improve attitude and engagement towards writing. To improve understanding of writing for an audience and purpose. To use thinking skills to support examination of a text Description The children have been studying “Orange’s In No Man’s Land’ by Elizabeth Laird, using the Literacy Evolve Scheme. I noted a particular interest in the book by the children and wanted to use this interest and enthusiasm and run with it. At the same time we were working on writing for a purpose and audience. I thought starting a BLOG with the children would be the ideal way of using that enthusiasm and training children to write for an audience. We used tagxedo, PP, and NGfl resources to support all that we did. It’s working well and the children have taken Blogging to their hearts and are writing/creating/evidencing more work than ever Applications PrimaryBlogger, Tagxedo (Powered by Microsoft Silverlight) Pyramid Ranking (Derived from NGfL ’10 things’ PowerPoint) and NGfl Living Graph and NGfL axis graph Tags <Engagement, Audience, Purpose, Assessment for Learning> BlogNewbies

  3. A GUIDE The following activity is for you and your class. The idea is that children work in groups and discuss what they think they would need to take with them to the moon. (As if they were astronauts) They need to decide on 10 items and be able to say why they have chosen them. They need to be able to put them in order of importance. Once they have had the discussion time they then can complete the pyramid ranking activity on the next slide and discuss their decisions as a class
