  1. Parents Guide to Percentages This Power Point Presentation will Show Parents the Language We Use When Teaching Children Percentages

  2. Introducing Percentages Percent means ‘out of 100’ Or ‘for every hundred’ % This sign says percent

  3. Finding 10% 5 7 H T U t h 5 7 We begin our work on percentages by finding 10% We find 10% by dividing by 10. We find 10% by moving the figures one place to the right. You can see how we do this in more detail on our Powerpoint Presentation on Multiplying and Dividing by 10, 100 & 1000

  4. Making 20% There are several methods we can use to find 20%. However to introduce 20% we find 10% and double it.

  5. Making 30% We use the same method to find 30%. We find 10% and multiply it by three.

  6. Using 10% We use this same method to find 40%, 60%, 70%, 80% and 90%. 40% = 10% x 4 60% = 10% x 6 70% = 10% x 7 80% = 10% x 8 90% = 10% x 9 We also use the 10% to find 5% 5% = 10% divided by 2

  7. Finding 5% We use the same method to find 15% We find 10% and 5% Then we add them both together.

  8. Finding 15% We use the same method to find 15% We find 10% and 5% Then we add them both together.

  9. Finding Other Percentages 50% = one half so we divide by 2 25% = one quarter so we divide by 4 75% = three quarters so we divide by 4 and multiply by three
