  3. POLAR BEARS YOUR ROLE HABITAT FAMILY

  4. HABITAT • Polar Bears live in “Dens” • These dens are very cold • Females use them to raise their young • Males use them to trap food

  5. HABITAT • Polar Bear dens are exceptionally cold • The snow insulates for added warmth • Polar Bears are known to withstand super cold temperatures • Dens are used throughout the dark winter

  6. HABITAT • The polar bear habitat is quickly melting due to global warming

  7. HABITAT • Polar Bear dens are found in North America and Asia • Polar Bears are also found in Greenland and the north pole regions RETURNHOME

  8. FAMILY • Young Polar Bears are called “cubs” • They live with their moms until they are nearly 300 pounds • They don’t catch their own food until nearly a year old • Many cubs don’t survive the winter or other predators

  9. FAMILY • Female polar bears are known to sacrifice themselves for their young. • Male polar bears are known to attack and even eat other families’ cubs • 1-in-2 polar bear cubs doesn’t make it to maturity

  10. FAMILY • This mom is protecting her young from the cold winter weather

  11. FAMILY • They are very playful as cubs • Polar bears enjoy tackling and play-fighting one another, even as adults • Grown males are often solitary • Grown females spend many years with their young RETURNHOME
