  1. A guide to the use of sunscreen Sunscreen is a product that helps to block the harmful ultraviolet rays from the sun. It is a topical product that is applied to the skin to protect against sunburn and other harmful effects of the sun. The right sunscreen product formulation would ensure complete protection when a person goes out into the sun. It is recommended to use sunscreen to protect against various skin cancers. Sun protection factor SPF or sun protection factor is a measure of how effective the formulation of sunscreen lotion is. SPF is a measure of how much of the UV rays from the sun reach the skin. SPF of 20 indicates that the lotion allows 1/20thof the sun’s radiation to reach the skin and blocks out the other part. Experts recommend that the best sunscreen product formulation is one that has an SPF factor of 30. Broad spectrum sunscreen The best formulation of sunscreen lotion is one that is broad spectrum in nature. Such a sunscreen provides protection against both ultraviolet A and ultraviolet B radiation. UVA rays can age the skin and cause wrinkles and other blemishes. UVB rays cause sunburn. The increased damage from either of these rays can increase the risk of developing skin cancer. Using sunscreen Sunscreen should be used whenever you go outside in the sun. The lotion should be appliedt o all the areas of the skin exposed to the sun. There is a belief that sunscreen is not needed on cloudy days. This is not true since cloud cover increases the amount of radiation that can affect the skin. Sunscreen should be used at least 15 minutes before going outside to ensure the best effect. Every two hours, sunscreen should be reapplied. Following this would ensure best protection for the skin.
