  1. The Epic of Gilgamesh Rachel Ragar

  2. There once was a powerful king named Gilgamesh who built a city called Uruk.

  3. He gets carried away with his power and is being unfair to his people, so the gods decide to make him a friend that will be a good influence on him. His name is Enkidu.

  4. They decide to bond by killing the guardian of the forest (Humbabba). The gods get angry and send the Bull of Heaven to destoryUruk as a punishment.

  5. Instead, they kill the Bull too. The gods respond by killing Enkidu and send him to the afterlife. Gilgamesh weeps for his friend and starts worrying about what it will be like to die.

  6. He sets off on a quest to find the key of immortality. He finds a man named Utnapishtim and he tells Gilgamesh that he needs to find a flower that grows at the bottom of the sea and eat it.

  7. He obtains the flower and while he stops to drink water from a river, a snake steals it from him. Gilgamesh is upset that he lost the chance to be immortal.

  8. When Gilgamesh goes back to Uruk, he realizes that he has it pretty good and that he doesn’t need to be immortal. He then writes down his story for everyone else to read.

  9. That is the story of The Epic of Gilgamesh.
