  1. Energy Types

  2. Energy Types • There are many different types of energy types of energy. They are listed below: • Heat Energy (which can come from a flame, the Sun, chemicals, electricity and nuclear explosions. It can burn, boil water, melt plastic, dry clothes and increase the temperature of things). • Light Energy (which can come from a light bulb, glow-worm or a fire. Solar energy is really just light energy from the Sun)

  3. Sound Energy (which can come from a radio, guitar or drum. It can vibrate the floor and your eardrum) • Electrical Energy (which can come from a battery, power point or thunderbolt, can power your iPod or TV, and can kill if handled carelessly). • Chemical Energy (Many chemicals store energy and wait for it to be released. This release of energy can be fast, possibly explosive. Petrol stores chemical energy and releases it very quickly. In contrast, food is a source of chemical energy that releases its energy much more slowly.

  4. Nuclear Energy (which comes from radioactive decay or a nuclear explosion). • Kinetic Energy (All moving things have kinetic Energy). • Gravitational Energy (Anything held above the ground has gravitational energy). • Elastic Energy (When an elastic band or a spring is stretched, it stores elastic energy. Compressed springs store elastic energy too).

  5. Conversion of Energy • One type of energy can change into another type of energy. However, it normally never transforms only into one energy types. • For example, a match completes chemical energy, heat energy and sound energy.

  6. Other Info • Many energy transfer types of poor converters of energy. For example, heat energy used for electricity production is a poor converter of energy. • A large amount of energy used by humans comes from fossil fuels (oil and coal). These are from dead things (coal is dead plants, oil is dead small sea creatures).

  7. Questions • Complete Q 1, 2, 5, 6, 7 and 9 in your Science books.
