  1. How To Design The Perfect Paved Driveway

  2. Whether you already have a driveway and it’s need of restoration or upgrading, or you want to have a completely new driveway installed at your home, having a paved one can not only look great, but be great in practical terms, too. That said, there are a number of considerations to make when designing one, and while your chosen construction company can take care of a lot of the design process for you, it pays to know as much as you can yourself, in order to get the most out of your investment.

  3. Driveways for larger properties If you have a large home or just a lot of space in front of your home, you can afford to really go to town and have a spectacular driveway designed and installed. This will not only mean that cars and other vehicles can move around easily on it, but that it will enhance the curb appeal of your home, too.

  4. If you’re having a large driveway installed, you may want to consider using a combination of colored paving stones along with decorative features to make it really stand out, such as palisades, stone benches or a sloping lawn fringe. If your driveway is going to be really big, you may even wish to have a small roundabout with a central fountain or similar feature incorporated into the design, for aesthetic appeal and ease of vehicular manoeuvrability.

  5. Driveways for smaller properties If you don’t have that kind of space, however, your main focus will be on ensuring that the driveway is practical, while still being aesthetically pleasing. In other words, it must be fit-for-purpose, and enable vehicles and people to traverse it effectively and safely, which may mean that you have to sacrifice additional design features such as fountains, benches, and flower beds, for example.

  6. Standard driveway design Generally, driveways need to be a minimum of 18 to 20 feet in length and 10 to 12 feet in width to ensure that vehicles can safely access the garage, and the overall design of the driveway will of course depend upon the garage’s location. Where possible, driveways should always be made longer and wider to increase functionality, but even a small driveway can still enhance curb appeal and make accessing your home and garage, much easier and safer.

  7. Adequate water drainage Essential for keeping your home looking attractive and structurally intact, paved driveways must be installed with adequate drainage for rainwater. Any water left pooling in front of your home will not only look unsightly and impede access to the property by foot, but could cause structural damage to the building if left unresolved.

  8. Paved driveway materials Smaller and thicker materials for paving your driveway are generally recommended, since it will be exposed to potentially heavy loads in the forms of cars and other vehicles. Ideally, thick paving stones should be used during the construction, as even if you don’t currently own a large car or SUV, you may well do so in the future, or if guests come to stay.

  9. When designing a paved driveway, you should also think about its edge and whether you want to include palisades, for example, and give thought to whether you should light it to make it safer and more convenient to use during the hours of darkness. Working with an experienced construction company should guarantee you a fabulous paved driveway that helps to increase the functionality and curb appeal of your home, and thankfully, there are plenty of reputable companies out there.
