H2020 The main differences from FP7 • bringing together of research and innovation in a single programme • focusing on multidisciplinary societal challenges which the European citizens face • simplifying the participation of all companies, universities, and other institutes in all EU countries and beyond

KEY MESSAGES • Very much stronger emphasis on bringing IN SMEs • Research for innovation needs to be able to demonstrate impact and close to market activities • H2020 to be policy rather than science driven • Trying to avoid divide between research and innovation  with greater integration  between the two • Different ways of funding projects which will address  the  fundamental challenges  • Need to translate knowledge into impact  (Anne Glover  -Barosso'sspecial scientific adviser)

  12. Strong consortium • ESSENTIAL that partners work COLLABORATIVELY to develop and deliver the project – planning meetings and conference calls • Project should build capacity for partners – developing learning and skills • Each partner should have clearly defined roles

  13. How do you find partners? • TO LEAD or JOIN? • Use your own networks and contacts • Initiate partner search • Use ERRIN and other similar network organisations

  14. When to start for 2015 • NOW • Do not wait • The best bids are usually those which have taken long time in gestation

Essential Elements of bid • Show evidence that your EU collaboration will lead to greater benefits • Explain the EU added value of your proposal and policy context What is the IMPACT? • Ensure your proposal 100% matches the priorities in the programme • Check that your proposal does not duplicate existing projects – but you can build on previous work

  16. Keep it clear and simple • The proposal must be easy to understand • Be clear about the objectives of your proposal • Ensure the Work Programme delivers your objectives in a well managed, detailedcost-effective programme of actions • Ensure measurable impact within and after project duration. What are your indicators? • LOOK AT THE AWARD CRITERIA – again and again!
