The Annual Awards Gala Ceremony • The Monaco Jazz Masters Awards (MJMA) gala is the annual worldwide-televised spectacular to salute the masters in the art of jazz. • A glamorous award ceremony presenting a celebration of jazz where the biggest names in jazz today will be joined by celebrities from film, music, sports, politics and business arenas in order to promote jazz music as the cultural, intellectual and altruistic art of communication. • All come together for this special occasion to promote jazz! • The Monaco Jazz Masters Awards (MJMA) mission is: • To honour and celebrate the greatness of the men and women who have shaped the art of jazz in the world • Drawing from its excellence in achievements and innovation • to hoist jazz back to its prominence in the New Millennium • To use jazz as a medium to effect social change via MJMA’s support of a charity initiative. • The Awards Ceremony honours the great and new names • of jazz in its many forms.   5. Jazz Day in Monaco During the day, in anticipation of the historic gala event, the Principality of Monaco offers itself as the backdrop and setting of the greatest jazz club of them all! The day’s activities include: An Jazz Masters Photo & FilmExhibition In leading sites such as the Grimaldi Forum and Quai des Artists. Jazz by the Seaside In the famous port of Monaco and the port of Fontevieille, select young artists shall perform throughout the day Jazz Day at FNAC The largest entertainment and electronic retailer in France/Monaco Jazz played via sound tracks throughout the City Jazz Combos & Groups will perform In the large Hotels like Hotel de Paris, Metropole, Hermitage, Le Meridien, Columbus, Marriott, etc. Jazz Concertsare scheduled throughout the day in public areas, like the Monte Carlo Beach Promenade, outdoor theatres and performance areas in Monaco centre, La Condamine, Fontevieille, the Casino Square and other strategic locations in the Principality. The Awards Gala Event • CHARITY DINNER & AWARDS CEREMONY • The highlight of this historic event is the star studded, Gala Charity Dinner and Jazz Masters Awards Ceremony, starting at 20:00 in the Salle des Etoiles in the Monaco Sporting Club d’Ete.   10. The Venue – Salle des Etoiles Constructed by Aristoteles Onassis, the famous Sporting d’Eté’s, Salle des Etoiles is world-renown. It is the most elegant venue for any event in Monaco. Operated by the Société des Bains de Mers (SBM), owned by His Royal Highness, its staff are the most experienced in hosting musical extravaganzas in the Principality. From its beginning, stars such as Josephine Baker, Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Rod Stewart, Lisa Minelli, Tina Turner, George Benson, to name but a few, have graced its stage. Moreover, it is the glitzy venue of the MC World Music Awards, the summer array of musical extravaganzas featuring artists from the international spectrum (including Charles Aznavour, Paolo Conti, Diana Krall, etc.). The Jury George Wein Beginning in 1950 with the opening of Storyville in Boston, Wein presented jazz in a setting respectful of both the musicians and the audience.  Since 1954, the Newport Jazz Festival has always reflected Wein's vision and grit, attracting music immortals as well as aspiring young artists to his stage. Along with writer Nate Chinen, Wein has recently authored his memoir, Myself Among Others: A Life in Music.  He joined Jerry Jazz Musician in a discussion on his life achievements, and on his unique perspective on the past, present and future of jazz. Bruce Lundvall Blue Note Records was a shadow of its former self when Bruce Lundvall arrived on the scene. The year was 1985 and the storied record label had lain dormant for the latter half of the 1970s and first half of the 1980s. Rolling up his sleeves, Lundvall set about reviving Blue Note by remaining faithful to its towering legacy while simultaneously expanding upon it by signing diverse and modern icons such as Cassandra Wilson, Joe Lovano, Greg Osby, Jacky Terrasson, Dianne Reeves, Jason Moran and Norah Jones. Fritz Thom President of the International Jazz Festival Organisation. The IJFO is an umbrella organization to currently 13 leading jazz festivals worldwide. The history of IJFO goes back more than 20 years: Several European jazz festivals promoters met in Paris in 1982 to discuss a tour with Miles Davis, amongst them Fritz Thom, organizer of the Vienna Jazz Festival. Howard Mandel Howard Mandel has written about jazz, blues, new and unusual music for twenty-five years, publishing in Billboard, Down Beat, Jazziz, The Village Voice, The Wire, and many other publications.
