    To better understand the world’s diverse cultures and how the environment, politics, and economics has influenced people and countries. 2. To explore current problems facing humanity and the environment in the 21st century. 3. To increase awareness of and develop an appreciation for human diversity To encourage the development of social responsibility and civic-mindedness.

    4. In this class, we ask questions and explore answers in an active, participatory class setting. In addition to learning about world cultures, this class develops critical thinking skills, knowledge of current events, geography skills, reading comprehension, and uses writing, oral speaking and group presentation skills.

    To succeed in this class, developing interpersonal, communication and cooperative skills are critical. Evaluation of your performance in this class is based on the following:

    The origins and practices of world religions, Art, dance, and music Body adornment, Traditions, rituals and celebrations Marriage, family and gender roles

    7. We explore the political, historic, economic and environmental problems of the 21st century, such as:

    Environmental changes and its impact from development in water, air and land, Poverty, hunger and food, Immigration and refugee resettlement, Drug trafficking and drug wars, Capitalism, communism, and globalization, Past and present day slavery, Human Rights violations, Indigenous peoples’ history and rights, United Nations

    9. Grading Policies

    25% Class participation; includes: coming to class with materials, actively listening to others when they are speaking,being present mentally and actively engaged, participating in class discussions. 25% Homework assignments; includes: legible handwriting, complete sentences,sincere effort, good thought, and handed in on time. 25% Class projects, includes papers and class projects, and the Travelogue Portfolio 25% Quizzes and tests
