  1. Storage optimization in Power Grid Master student projects in DNV GL

  2. DNV GL Group • DNV GL Group is now • the world's largest ship and offshore classification society, • the leading technical advisor to the global oil and gas industry, • a leading expert for the energy value chain including renewables and energy efficiency. • one of the top three certification bodies in the world.

  3. Expanded international network DNV GL Europe, Africa,Middle East 9,000 Americas 3,000 Asia, Oceania 4,000 2,500 mill. Euro (2012) 100 countries 16,000 Employees >80% have a university degree

  4. An innovation powerhouse 5% of annual revenue reinvested into research and development every year 70 internal technology projects annually 170 industry standards and recommended practices Dedicated R&D centers in the Netherlands, Norway, Singapore, the UK and the US. 100 joint industry projects each year

  5. DNV GL STRATEGICRESEARCH & INNOVATION (~80 empl. 2013) • DNV GL provides strategic research and innovation with primary focus on new knowledge and technology areas that have a long term impact on our business development. • We primarily invest in research and innovation supporting the long term business goals of the current strategy, but also explore emerging opportunities which may become part of future strategy. The research activities are coupled with business development initiatives and service piloting. Current research encompasses the following areas:

  6. Power & Electrification Programme

  7. The project PLATOS • The PLATOS project aims to assist the network operators (e.g. Hafslund) to place and size storage units in power grids such that the storage injection or consumption of power relieves the lines/cable loading.

  8. Your involvement Working scope: • Help formulate the mathematics/optimization problem. • Identify suitable solvers (preferably open-source products) • Implement the prototype in MATLAB Your qualifications: • Strong mathematics background, especially in optimization. • Programming skills in MATLAB • Knowledge of power grids is NOT required.  • Most of all, you are curious and eager to explore new territories. You are excited to apply theoretical knowledge in real world problems. For more info, please contact Yongtao Yang Ph. D.
