About SMCC • Educational Institution • Before School Program at 5 schools • After School Programs at 3 schools • Summer School Program • Founded in 1989 • First program started with < 20 students • Currently serve approximately 250 students per year • In downtown schools only ~other schools asking for our programs

  3. Our Support Base • Over 350 Organizations • Churches • Businesses • Large corporations to small businesses • Sororities/Fraternities • Colleges • Social and Service clubs • Jaycees, Sertoma, Retired Teachers • Community Foundation • Direct Gifts • Endowment Fund

  4. Our Support Base • Appeals • Christmas • Apples for Students • “Come back to St. Mark” • Other Sources • Summer program sponsorships • Jingle Bell Hop • Annual Luncheon/Gala • Ice Golf

  5. Our Support Base • Other Grants • Prudential Foundation • Dubuque Racing Association • Variety Club • Many others • Volunteers • Over 120 volunteers recruited from colleges and community every semester to help staff programs

  6. How We Do It • Staff Restructuring • Formerly the Executive Director, 2 Program Coordinators, 1 Vista, a few Board members did all Fundraising • Board approved addition of: • Marketing/Development position in 2006 • Grant Writer in 2008 • Events Coordinator in 2011

How We Do It • Marketing/Development • Develops and maintains relationships • Individuals • Business Partnerships • Consult with people to guide them in their philanthropic goals • Advises and informs donors regarding estate planning • Secures additional funds via matching gifts from eligible companies.

How We Do It • Marketing/Development (cont.) • Ensures branding is consistent • Utilizes donor database to track donors and make decisions related to development • Supervises the Events Coordinator • Events Coordinator • Organizes 5 major events during the year • Part time very flexible hours • Frees up ED and Development Director to call on potential donors • Keeps St. Mark CC visible in the community

  9. How We Do It • Vista • Recruits and supervises volunteers • Builds community relationships especially with the colleges • Good candidates require good organizational skills and knowledge of the community • May become a paid position in the future • These salaries pay for themselves many times over
