  2. Highlight of Current Activities • Wireless telecommunication technical committee of CCSA (CCSA TC5) now focuses on the following wireless access technologies research and standardization. Wireless Access Tech. TC5 WG3 (Wireless Access WG) Wireless Access Tech. supporting trunking service UWB WLAN TC5 WG9 (TD&WCDMA&LTE WG) WLAN and mobile access interworking

Development of Wireless Access Technologies Broadband Wireless Access Supporting Trunking service Narrowband Wireless Access Broadband Wireless Access • Service: fixed voice • Mainly applied in rural areas • Limited market and less users • Service: data, voice • Supporting high speed data access • Service: data, voice, trunking service • Mainly targets private networks and industrial users

  4. Challenges • Broadband wireless access is not competitive with 3G and enhanced 3G technology. • Since Basic telecom operators prefer deploying 3G cellular networks than building BWA networks, it’s better to enhance BWA technology and applied them to private network. • Now there exists several technologies supporting trunking services, such as SCDMA based, LTE based, TETRA and other technologies. • Potential market of private network is limited, therefore it’s not beneficial to develop multiple standards.

Next Steps / Actions Wireless Access Tech. supporting trunking service • Continuing pre-standard research on current and emerging technologies. • Find the possibility of integrating different technologies. Wireless Access Technology • Research on new wireless access technology. • Developing standards on WLAN and mobile network interworking, to promote WLAN offloading in data traffic.
