Session 6 Summary 5 presentations • Youchison: ITER FWQM testing – described HHF testing for the completed round 1 testing of EU&US FW mock-ups (12000 cycles at .875 MW/m2, 1000 cycles at 1.4 MW/m2, 100 cycles at 2.2 MW/m2). Round 2 with CN,JA,KO, & RF mock-up now at 6300 cycles at .875 MW/m2. Round 2 testing will continue through end of August. Parallel testing at Besthe facility in EU.
Youchison: Two-phase CFD analysis of FW hypervapotrons for ITER. Evaluated two commercial CFD codes for applicability to this problem. • Fluent had problems with solver divergence. Star-CCM+ gave stable results and works with native Catia files. Benchmarking experiments now in planning. • Boyd: Summary of peaking factor correlation development work at Prairie View A&M. Methodology for PF development (e.g. swirltube monoblock). Studies for geometry changes such as wall thickness on peaking factors (passive high heat flux enhancement). Produce a quick scoping tool for evaluation of PFC cooling concepts. • Morley: Presented CFD analysis of ITER baseline FW/SM design by Alice Ying et al. 3-d flow and conjugate heat transfer analysis on full BSM04. Comparison to alternate concepts – illustrated problems with ITER CAD models. Presneted thermal analysis on hypervapotron including Be tiles using boiling correlation. 5 Mw/m2 over one tile results in Be evaporation. • Morley: Presented MHD analysis of thermocapillary transport of Li using HIMAG code and 1-D model from UIUC. Also began analysis of thermoelectric MHD transport to explain UIUC SLiDE experiment. Presented CVD SiC/Ga compatability up to 700C, 24 hours – 6mg loss from 806mg SiC. Discussed Be/F82H joining development work for ITER TBM.
