  1. Girl Scouts Guide for a successful Project CURE Kits for Kids program

Created By Cassandra S. Troop 2494
  2. Making the world a better place Girl Scouts are making the world a better place by giving needed supplies to Project CURE to ship to families in need Project CURE is making the world a better place by giving people needed supplies to make them healthier and happier This manual will help you create a successful Project CURE Kits for Kids event to get the supplies Project Cure is An organization that sends donated medical supplies and equipment to third world countries They have delivered medical relief to more than 130 countries since 1987
  3. Where do you start? Learn more about Project CURE Go to Project C.U.R.E.’s website and learn more about this group so you can pass along the information when asked why you are working on this project. Review all the items that can go in a Kits for Kids or Infant Cure Kits bag. Create a goal A goal will help you have an idea of how many supplies you need to get Decide if you want to get donations from friends, Family, neighbors, community, etc. Or you might want your troop to raise the money and buy the supplies. Consider doing both
  4. Here is the list of supplies for Kits for Kids. You need at least 10 items for each kit
  5. How much could a kit cost? If you buy all the items at a dollar store for example, a kit could cost about $10 to make. There is a $5 shipping fee per kit. Plan on $15/kit. Kits can cost less if … You use coupons to get supplies for less money. You look at Amazon and other online stores so that you can get items for less than a dollar each. You shop around at different places to get the best price for your money.
  6. What if you choose to raise the money? Think of the different ways your troop can raise money to purchase the supplies and pay for the $5 shipping fee. You can sell Girl Scout Nuts/Candies and Cookies You could do a bake sale or have a lemonade stand Be creative.
  7. How many Cookie boxes do we need to sell? Here is an example to figure out how many boxes of cookies you need to sell to make the number of kits you want Lets say you are making 20 kits. It will be $10 for each kit + $5 shipping. 20* (10+5)= $300 You get $0.60 per cookie box. Divide $15 by $.60, and you get 25 boxes. You need to sell 25 cookie boxes per kit. Then multiply your goal of 20 kits by 25 boxes and you need to sell 500 boxes of cookies. Now you know how many cookies you need to sell
  8. Advertise your goals when selling cookies You can advertise your goals when you go door to door or even at cookie booths When you go door to door you can tell your customers about your goals. You can give them a flyer with all the info When you are at cookie booths you can create signs and posters that advertise your goal. You could also tell every customer about your goal.
  9. What if you choose to have the supplies donated? You could ask family, friends, neighbors and the community for donations of supplies. You could set up boxes to collect medical supplies around your school if it is okay with the principal. You could set up boxes to collect medical supplies in businesses (like your parent’s work place) if it is okay. You could advertise in front of a store that carries medical supplies in it after you get permission from the manager. You could set up a drive in your neighborhood where you pass out flyers with all the information and say that you will return on a specific date to pick up the items. Add to flyer to leave items in a bag marked for Girl Scout Troop in case people are not home.
  10. Donation ideas Create flyers to give to your costumers so they have an idea of what you are doing and what supplies you need If you make collection boxes, include information about Project CURE, why you are collecting supplies, a date for collecting supplies, what the supplies are that you need, who you are. You can make tear off tabs with the link to Project CURE’s Kits for Kids program so people can look up the supply list later You can ask other girl scout troops to help you with donations.
  11. Contact Project CURE Why So you can get ahold of someone who can answer your questions So you can get additional flyers, videos, and more to help you in any way Let them know you are making kits and you will need bags Set up time to deliver completed kits Contact Megan Prentice Community Outreach Manager PROJECT C.U.R.E. O: 720.490.4025 C: 720.989.7393 F: 303.792.0744 Meganprentice@projectcure.org www.projectcure.org
  12. Set up a time to put together your kits Your troop can pack all the kits by yourself You can have other people help you pack the kits Girl Scout event Make this a Girl Scout community event Set a date to do the activity Invite people to the activity You also could do this at an activity you planned like Thinking Day.
  13. Deliver the Kits to Project Cure And see where they go!
