  3. Finding information • Engineers always need to find new information • If you want to design, being good at finding good information is a crucial skill to have

  4. Amazing! Amazing how much information is readily available through a good library system. Being able to find information is a great skill to have as a design engineer. Being willing to look for new information is a great characteristic to have as a design engineer.

  5. Amazing! Personal observation: often design departments get “in-breed” with information. Good engineers regularly look outside the company walls for new information. Recommendation: set aside 2 hrs/week to read new information.

  6. Caution! Good information is valuable. (For example, Clarkson pays about $900K/year to get access to the information that we will look at in a few minutes) Must use great caution in using free information available on the Web.

  7. Caution! Using free information from the web to do engineering, without confirming the validity, is likely to be a breach of professional ethics. DON’T DO IT…

  8. Let’s look at some good sources of information Clarkson’s library This is typical of what you will find in any good technical library, including company libraries.
