  2. New policy New policy effective this semester-Fall 2012 Addresses all undergraduate students regardless of year of entry into the University Creates a new University level probation and suspension Why the change?

  3. Probation Any undergraduate with a cumulative GPA of less than a 2.0 will be placed on probation every term unless suspended The Office of the University Registrar (OUR) notifies student by US mail as well as e-mail Colleges/Schools also provided lists of their students on probation Communications from the OUR will direct all questions to student’s advisor and/or College/School

  4. Probation Probation will now be noted on official transcript Colleges/Schools may still dismiss students from their program at any time. This dismissal does not preclude a student changing major and remaining enrolled at WVU No suspensions from the University will occur in December UNLESS a student failed to meet provisions of an earlier reinstatement contract (which the student signed). This is handled exclusively by the College or School who reinstated the student.

  5. Tentative December timeline Grades due on Monday, December 17th by noon Repeat processing and all other end of term activities occur by Wednesday, December 19th Probation process run by Wednesday December 19th Emails sent out to students on probation by December 20th File for probation letters sent to printers by December 20th Letters mailed directly from printer

  6. Suspension • Suspension will only occur after the spring semester • Decision to suspend a student rests with the University. Decision to reinstate a student on the basis of their appeal rests with the College/School • Suspension on the basis of attempted hours and GPA • 1-28 hours 1.40 • 29-58 hours 1.70 • 59-88 hours 1.90 • 89 or more 2.00

  7. Suspension First suspension=1 semester Second suspension=1 calendar year Third suspension=5 years Students may enroll in summer to raise GPA or to satisfy the conditions of an appeal. All suspensions from the University effective in fall term.

  8. Suspension Appeals must be filed with College/School by June 1st College or School must decide on appeals by July 1st and notify students unless summer enrollment is involved Students who did not successfully appeal and are not enrolled in summer classes will be removed from fall courses by mid-July
