  1. Podcasting and AudacityAn overview Melinda Wright CCHS Media Center

  2. What is Podcasting? • Series of audio or video digital files distributed over the internet through web feeds. • Distinguished from other digital media formats by its ability to be syndicated, subscribed to and automatically downloaded.

  3. The name, Podcasting, is a portmanteau of the words ‘iPod’ and ‘broadcast’. • Since more devices other than iPods are able to synchronize with podcast feeds, a backronym has been developed. • Podcast acronym stands for “Personal On Demand broadCAST.”

  4. Podcasting is powerful. • Small, focused and underserved topics of interest. • First step is choosing a topic. • Next step would be to choose the format. • Solo, team, interview style. • Length, segments. • Speaking only or background music.

  5. One rule for Podcasts There are no rules…. (just keep it legal).

  6. Before Recording • Select Topic • Choose Format • Write Script • Set up equipment • Practice • Gather all materials

  7. Now on to Audacity! • Create a new project. • File • Save Project as • Choose location • Name project

  8. ID3 tags • In Audacity, go to Project then edit ID3 tags • File name should reflect title. • Use full title for file name if short • Initials if long.

  9. Recording • Click on the redRecord button to begin recording. • Click on the bluePause button to pause the recording. Press it again to continue. • Click on the yellowStop button to cease recording. The cursor will return to its previous position, before the recording was started.

  10. Do Prepare Speak clearly Speak slowly Follow notes Use the pause Stay calm! Don’t Rustle paper Move excessively Talk fast Get too close Worry! Recording Do’s and Don’ts
