  2. DISTRICT IMPLEMENTATION TEAM The main role of the DIT is to build capacity. Districts were asked to appoint or select representatives to come to the SCDE Sessions. Representatives will redeliver to teachers in their districts. SCDE Sessions of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) have focused on ELA & Math.

  3. Recommendations ofImplementation: Add Social Studies & Science Leaders to DIT in the future Add Media Specialist & ELL/ESOL representatives to DIT Each school should have a school-level implementation team & include the above Conduct Parent in-service sessions on CCSS Include CCSS information in school newsletters

  4. Other Recommendations: Create CCSS booklets for teachers & parents Principals must become the instructional leaders of the implementation in the schools. In time, districts and schools should update their 5 year plan to include CCSS Districts need to provide longer time for ½ days and monthly staff development for CCSS

  5. The Office of Teacher Effectiveness Interim Director is- Mr. Bruce Moseley Most districts are implementing CCSS with full implementation in grades K-2 The above implementation was easier for most districts since K-2 ELA adoption was completed. This office is offering more PD for grades 3-12. Visit the web page especially the left side

  6. Selecting CCSS Products/Services Research prior to your selection! Review the data, align school data with your needs (Needs Assessment) Have a vetting process in place before selecting a product or service Take time to evaluation the effectiveness of the product/service- solicit feedback from teachers

  7. Common Core State Standards- Math SCDE has placed more emphasis on K-8. More mathematical practices are the focus for math staff development overview There are free math offering for DIT Members. Two weeks before sessions, if available space, district may register 2 persons who are not DIT Algebra I and HSAP Testing will continue until General Assembly makes a decision. HSAP- 11th? Transitioned?

  8. Important Points to Remember: You must have buy-in from teachers! If CCSS is the focus of teaching effectively the standards, test scores will improve. With CCSS, one thing at a TIME. Teachers need the time to focus only on this! Make time for “good” professional development This endeavor is a journey, a process! Celebrate all accomplishments & Beware of dips!
