Automated Optimal MT selection supporting XLIFF Naoto Nishio, Dr. Ian O’Keeffe, J.J. Collins, Reinhard Schäler
Problem • MT integration to a localisation workflow is difficult. It requires professional support. • Different APIs • Manual operation. • for example: locate the result, copy and paste the translation result.
Existing service http://imtranslator.net/translation/
Invention: • Provide the unified interface for online MTs. • Currently Microsoft Bing and Yahoo! Babelfish. • Use XLIFF standard • Populate <alt-trans> with relevant attributes and translation.
Support CNGL: • Easily accessible language resources for cost and time effective localisation process (Schäler 2008). • The Concept of Localisation Factory for Next Generation Localisation for effective integration of technology such as MT (Lewis et al 2009).
Future work • The MT selection mechanism • Currently a MT output is selected by human translators. • Future: selection before translation towards automation.
Summary • Unified interface for online MTs • Populate a standard file format- XLIFF • These facilitate easy MT integration to a localisation workflow
