  2. WHAT IS A PERCENTAGE? • A percentage is like a fraction and a decimal • If you have 10% you have 10 out of 100 or 10/100 or 0.10 • If you have 5% you have 5 out of 100 or 5/100 or 0.05

  3. To find a percentage of a whole number • Change your percentage to a decimal number Example: 10% = 0.10 • Multiply your new decimal by your whole number Example: 25 x 0.10 2 places to the right 2.5 0 move your decimal 2 place to the left

  4. Now you try it! • What is 25% of 12? • First change 25% to a decimal number • Did you get 0.25? • Now multiply your new decimal times 12 • Did you get 3.00?

  5. Here’s another… • What is 60% of 80? • Change 60% to a decimal • Multiply your new decimal times 80

  6. Challenge! • Change 5% to a decimal. Be sure to write it in the hundredths place!!! • Which answer did you choose? A. 5 B. 0.5 C. 0.50 D. 0.05

  9. Apply it! • $2000 x 0.05 You have 2 places to the right of $1 0 0.0 0 the decimal, so you will need to move the decimal back 2 places to the left
