Explaining Module Codes • The first three letters indicate the subject group. • Our School (Accounting, Financial Services & Law) has ACC, FIN and LAW modules • The School of Management has ENT (entrepreneurship), HRM (human resource management) and SOE (management) modules. • The first two digits indicate the level: 07 for year 1 08 for year 2 09 for year 3 10 for year 4 11 for Masters

  9. Module Assessments • Each module will have at least TWO elements of assessment • Assessments will vary from essays, reports, exams, presentations etc. • Module pass mark is P1. • There are: D1-D5, P1 – P5 and F1 – F6 • If you fail a module there is ONE reassessment attempt only

Moodle • Nearly all the modules you study at Edinburgh Napier will have a presence on Moodle (our virtual learning environment) • Lecture notes, tutorial solutions, sample exam papers etc. are usually available on Moodle • Access through the student portal or via http://moodle.napier.ac.uk • You cannot access Moodle if you have not matriculated

What is PDP? • “ A structured and supported process undertaken by an individual to reflect upon their own learning, performance and/or achievement and to plan for their personal, educational and career development” (Quality Assurance Agency (2001) Guidelines for HE Progress Files, Gloucester, QAA)

PDP – In layman’s terms • Helping students to benefit from their learning experience • Asking students to reflect on WHAT they have learned, the WAY they learn and HOW to develop this learning experience • Getting students to appreciate their STRENGTHS but understand their WEAKNESSES across a range of employability skills

PDP – Our School’s Model • Programme leader also acts as PDT for the MSc IF students. • PDP process explained in induction week • Students compile a folder of PDP activities • Students have two scheduled PD meetings in the academic year • Students complete an initial Personal Development Plan prior to Meeting 1 • Students update plan after Meeting 2

  22. So, what will I study? • You will be joining year 4, the Honours year, of our Financial Services degree. In addition to a compulsory module in Central Banking, your option pool will include: Management of Financial Institutions; Regulatory Risk Management; Investment Management; Global Financial Markets; and Behavioural Issues in Finance. You will also be required to complete a dissertation in the area of Financial Services
