  2. WHAT IS ANEMIA? • Anemia is a medical condition in which the red blood cell count orhemoglobin is less than normal. 

  3. WHAT IS ANEMIA? • For men, anemia is typically defined as hemoglobin level of less than 13.5 gram/100ml and in women as hemoglobin of less than 12.0 gram/100ml.

  4. WHAT CAUSES ANEMIA? • Not havingenoughiron • Blood loss: excessive bleeding such as hemorrhages or abnormal menstrual bleeding • Chronic illness  • Cancer therapy: surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy and/or immunotherapy • Infiltration (replacement) of bone marrow with cancer • Hemolysis: Breakdown or destruction of red blood cells • Decreased red cell production
