  1. Briefing on the Integrated Surface Observing System (ISOS)A Presentation to the NOAA Science Advisory Board Brig. Gen. David L. Johnson, USAF (Ret.)NOAA Assistant Administrator for Weather Services March 22, 2005

  2. Outline • Purpose • Issues • Presentation of Briefing • Desired Outcomes - - SAB Action

  3. Purpose • Present an informational briefing on the Integrated Surface Observing System (ISOS), discuss its role within NOAA, and receive SAB feedback

  4. Issues • “Integrated” Surface Observation System • Expand plan to include other NOAA surface observing systems • Seams: Land to Water • SAB Working Group

  5. NOAA’s Integrated Surface Observing System • FY 07 Program Decision Memorandum • Climate; Weather and Water; and Commerce and Transportation “should” develop a detailed plan for an Integrated Surface Observing System (ISOS). Plan should consider current surface observing systems and proposed modernization efforts and identify overlaps and opportunities for consolidation/efficiency and increase capabilities. Use plan in developingFY 08 Program Baseline Assessments.
