The Context • The seed is the word of God (Lk. 8:11) • The “soils” are different types of hearers • The “wayside soil” represents those who fall prey to the devil and his devices (Lk. 8:12; see 2 Cor. 2:11) • The “rocky soil” represents those who hear superficially (Lk. 8:13; Acts 24:25) • The “thorny soil” represents those who are distracted (Lk. 8:14; 12:16-21) • The “good ground” who those who obey the gospel (Lk. 8:15; Col. 1:3-6)

  3. We Need To Take Heed Not To Be: • Forgetful hearers (James 1:22-25) • Those who are hard of hearing (Matt. 13:15) • Itching-ear hearers (2 Tim. 4:3-4) • Stopped-ear hearers (Acts 7:57)

  4. Take Heed To Be: • Obedient hearers (Matt. 7:24-25) • Swift hearers (James 1:19) • Jews on Pentecost (Acts 2) • The Ethiopian (Acts 8) • Cornelius (Acts 10) • The jailer (Acts 16)
