  1. Writing a conclusion and discussing the science!

  2. Success criteria

  3. I am able to identify a simple trend= below the level (not achieved) • When I opened the tap the water gushed out

  4. I am able to describe the trend and mention the independent and dependent variables- achieved • As the tap opening increased the amount of water flowing increased

  5. I am able to explain the correct trend using correct variables (IV & DV) and support it by using data (may be an equation) in the results.- merit • As the tap opening increased from shut to fully opened the flow of water increased from zero to 10 litres per minute

  6. I am able to discuss the correct trend using correct variables (IV & DV) and support it with data (may be an equation) in the results. I can also link the trend back to my prediction/hypothesis. • I predicted that as the tap opening increased the amount of water flowing through increased. My results agree with this prediction. As can be seen in my graph, as the tap opening increased from zero to fully opened the amount of water increased from zero to 10 litres per minute. Every quarter turn of the tap increased the amount of water per minute by 2.5 litres per minute.

  7. Write a conclusion for the following…. • Amount of sugar dissolved vs temperature of water

  8. Relevant finding from another source • Now make comparisons between your results and the source provided.

  9. What about the science ideas?

  10. Why did more water per minute come out of the tap as the opening increased? • I can describe the science idea behind the trend without help (achieved) • As the tap opened there was more force downwards on the water

  11. I can explain the science idea – (make several links) • The forces when the tap is closed are balanced because the water isn’t moving. But when you open the tap, there is less support, the forces are unbalanced and the water moves downwards

  12. I can discuss the science idea behind the trend (make multiple links) • The force acting on the water initially is balanced as the support force from the closed tap equals the weight force downwards which means that the overall force is zero. When you open the tap the support force is decreased but the weight force is unchanged, so there is an overall force downwards which results in the water accelerating downwards. The more you open the tap the less support force there is and the greater the net force downwards so the greater the acceleration of the water and more water flow per minute.

  13. Now discuss the science for your helicopter experiment.
