Detente. Marseille Marckens. DEFINITION. Detente is a French word meaning relaxing or easing. Detente was used during the Cold War in 1970′s and did reduce tensions between the U.S. and the Soviet Union. Less fighting and argument and more peace and understating. More peace among them.

  2. DEFINITION • Detente is a French word meaning relaxing or easing. • Detente was used during the Cold War in 1970′s and did reduce tensions between the U.S. and the Soviet Union. • Less fighting and argument and more peace and understating. • More peace among them.

  3. SINGNIFICANCE Detente is applied in a situation of increasing tension between nations. It is a way to find peace through Diplomacy without fighting. That’s what the United State did with the Soviet Union in order to have peace. Detente greatly calmed the tensions of the USA and USSR and encouraged more peace worldwide. Less war and more peace around. Detente is significant to us because it was a great way to bring peace with United States and the Soviet Union. Without it you could have been at war for a long and a of destruction would happen.
