  3. Cherkasy Region Welcomes In the heart of Ukraine on both sides of the Dnipro River lives the Cherkasy Region.Generosity graced by nature its history goes back to the times immemorial. Cherkasy region is a prosperous region with varied his- tory and distinctive spiritual culture.Cherkasy region is a flourishing land with its rich history and culture. The unique combination of modernity and the past, reali- ties and legends produce the unique sights on the magic nature. Cherkasy region gladly welcomes guests, all those attracted by Shevchenko sights, the unique at- mosphere of the ancient Cherkasy,picturesque banks of the Dnipro River, the magic “Sofiyivka“ and the Hetman`s capital Chyhyryn… Cherkasy region is always opened to guests and people coming with open heart, love and good. This project will help you to get to know about the unique historical and cultural heritage of the land and its Seven Wonders.

  4. The First Wonder Krasnohirs`ky Monastery Place-Near Zolotonosha Wonderful and beautiful sights of the left-bank Cherkasy Region are blanketed with numerous rivers and brooks. In one of such corner of a rare beauty, half-way from Kyiv to Kremenchuh, the Krasnohirs`ky Savior Transfiguration monastery is placed, which arose up in the first half of the 17th century. From the time of its foundation, the monastery was a friary, and from 1790 it became a nunnery. The nuns were engaged in household cultivated the land, bred the cattle, developed beekeeping and gardening. From the 19th century, the monastery become a noticeable cultural and educational center having its archive and library, which attendants of the monastery could use. The architectural pearl of the monastery, the church named after Holy Transfiguration, was found by Pereyasliv bishop Hervasiy in 1767.Construction of the major church of the mo- nastery was completed in July,1771.The Transfiguration church of the Monastery was built in the style of Ukrainian baroque, which is charac- terized by dynamic composition,restrained and at the same time re- fined décor.The cult building looks even more solemn due to three do- mes of the green color with gilded stars and four corbels completed with crosses. The author of this unique architectural sight- a talented architect I. Hruhorovych-Barsky- managed to design and built the church on a complicated relief and to organically merge it with the surrounding landscape .At present,the whole complex of Krasnohirs`ky Savior Transfiguration cathedral is included into the State Register of the National Cultural Ancestry as sights of architecture. Having visited this center we feel force and grandeur of the human faith .

  5. The Second Wonder Kholodny Yar Kholodny Yar is a relic forest mass whichhas a great historic and safe – nature importance. It is situated on the territory of two administrative districts-Chyhyryns`kyand Kamyans`ky.It was the center of the native land defenders. In1918 the beginning of the1920s,Kholodny Yar Repub lic Existedhere. And during II, partisan detach- mentsoperated in these forests. In addition to the trees that are sights of natu- re this natural boundary contains a plenty of Millennial Oak of Maxsym Zaliznyak The map of Kholodny Yar sights of archaeology, history, culture and nature. By the amount of unique archaeological, historic, scientific valuable natural objects- they make up over 150 names- Kholodny Yar is the leader in Ukraine. Relicts of the past appear here at every step. Every in this place is full of history. Millenial Oak of Maksym Zaliznyak is the witness of a lot of historic events. It is under this tree that Haydamaks came together planning raids on the gentry. It is the real “patriarch” of local forests. The oak has the height of over 30 meters.Zaliznyak`s oak has a magic force. They say that if you have a rest under its strong crown, you will attain aims and ambitions. Motronyns`ky monastery is one of the sources of Cherkasy region`s spiri- tuality. The monastery has played an important role in the public life. In the 17th -18th centeries,monastery became one of the centers of the anti-Uniate movement on the right-bank Ukraine. Khmel`nyts`ky was engaged in this monastery,the 28-year old Maksym Zaliznyak passted to monastery from Zhabotyns`ky one. In 1911 the monastery became a convent.   6. The Third Wonder St. Elias Church Place – Subotiv Village Chyhyryns`ky district Subotiv Village has an interesting past. The name of the village originates from the river Suba. So ancient Slavs called the sacral fire on the holiday of Ivan Kupala. Subotiv was granted to the father of Bogdan Khmel`nyts`ky – Mykhaylo. No matter where you enter Subotiv, you will sure see St. Elias Church. Unusual is the architecture of this temple, in which the style of the Ukrainian baroque organically combines with the renaissance elements. Having examined it more closely, you will notice openings in the walls for cannon and dun shooting, unusual depth of the walls and extremely high position of windows. The temple was included into the defense complex of the Hetman`s estate constructions. In the times of Bohdan,the church an Zamchyshche were linked with a subterranean passage. Chronicles testify that fact. According to the legend,the body of Bohdan Khmel`nyts`ky was for Some time saved in St. Elias church. However, his- torians do not know for sure the burian-place of the prominent hetman.

  7. The Fourth Wonder Kamyanka State History and Culture Preserve Kamyans`ky Region is located on the Prydniprovs`ky Heights. It borders on Smilyansky and Chyhyryns`ky Raions of Cherkasy Region. Kamyanka State History and Culture Preserve has been functioning since 1995. Ka- myanka lands are often visited by numerous tourists from Ukraine and abroad. They are attracted by the historical sights of the national value. The oldest architectural monument of the park is a grotto built at the end of the 18th century which used to be favourite resting place of Kamyanka guests, including Pushkin, Tchaikovsky and Decembrists. It was this green house where young Pushkin is said to come and recite his poems, which were also often born under the stone grotto arch. On one of the park alleys you will find a monument to Pushkin who visited Kamyanka two times- in 1820-1822. A few poems which were written here belong to the master- pieces of the world lyric poetry. In 1820, Pushkin stayed in Kamyanka for four months. On the central alley of the park, your attention will be attracted by a bronze monument to the leaders of the Southern Society:V. Davydov, P. Pestel, S. Volkonskiy, S.Muravyov-Apostol and M. Bestuzhev-Ryumin. Here, in Kamyanka,the Society used to hold its secret meetings.   8. The Fifth Wonder “ Anniversary” Landscape Park in Cherkasy Sosnivsky park in Cherkasy was built in honour of the 50th anniversary of October Revolution in 1967. It is the example of park building. The park was formed on the base of old relic pine forest and its territory is 39.2 hectare. The unique project of the landscape park was worked out by the architects from Kyiv. During several years many people of Cherkasy came here at weekends on subbotniks to fulfil the plan of architects. The building of the park was really nation-wide. In 1980 the park was awarded the Gold medal of landscape art and it was included to the catalogue of World`s parks. Nowadays the “Anniversary” landscape park in the suburban area stands out due to its uniqueness. A lot of cozy and interesting places wait for holiday-makers in the park: green clearings, picturesque reservoirs and artificial waterfalls.

  9. The Sixth Wonder Korsun`-Shevchenkivs`ky State History and Culture Preserve Korsun`- Shevchenkivsky Preserve was formed in 1993. It includes the numbers of historical cultural and natural monuments of Korsin` Shevchenkivsky, and the villages of Stebliv, Vyhrayiv and Kvitky. These monuments are connected with the formation of the state of Ukraine, the history of Co- ssaks , the life and creative work of T. Shevchenko, I. Nechuy-Levyts`ky, V. Avramenko, K. Stetsenko and I. Soshenko, and the events of the World War II. The first thing that strikes in Korsun`-Shevchenkivs`ky is a picturesqueRos` River. Beautiful scenery surrounds you almost everywhere. The nature of the place is of an exceptional beauty. The Knight on guardmeets everyone who wanders through Korsun`-Shevchenkivs`ky, as if asking whether good intentions brought the traveler to the city. The place used to be the south border of the Ancient Rus State. The palace complex of Lopuhiny-Drmydovy is a vivid example of the 19th cen- tury architecture. The stone house built in 1789 with a double-side hall was one of the first palaces on the territory that at that time belonged to Poland built in neo-gothic style. The group of buildings is situated on a few islands of the Ros`River. In the middle of the 19th century, the palace was one of the richest in Europe. The Seventh Wonder Monument to Taras Shevchenko on Chernecha Gora ( Taras Hill ) The only way to discover the Kaniv territory-the land glorified in poetry and warmed by love of Ukrainians of the whole world-is to visit this blessed corner of Ukraine. A kobza-player sings above the grey Dnipro. The wind blows his riotous forelock, the lyrics of the folk duma sound solemn and severe telling about victorious Cossacks marches, about love to the national land. This monument seems to bring us back to heroic times of Cossacks and, at the same time, reveals the singing Ukrainian soul. To all Ukrainians of the world Kaniv is known as the burial place of the great Kobzar- Taras Shevchenko. It is here on Kaniv hills, that T. Shevchenko, whose tired and mourning soul was longing for home comfort. Dreamed to build his house, but it did not happen so. The fate decided otherwise: Taras found his eternal shelter on Chernecha Gora. And now the Dnipro River slowly rocks its mighty waves past his grave paying the eternal honour to the poet. Flowers on his grave testify the honour and boundless love of people.
