  1. Sensors and data acquisition system Lea Di Noto INFN Genova SOX General Meeting, SestriLevante 14th May 2014

  2. Introduction We want to know the adsorbed power with 1% accuracy by measuring: - the water mass flow - the difference of temperature between the entering water and the outgoing water varies from 1500 W to 500 W is 0.01 kg/s variesfrom 35°C to 12 °C SOX meeting, 14th May 2014 L.DiNoto - INFN Genova

  3. The sensors 1. Main sensors mass flow meters  thermometers with high accuracy 2.Other sensors  inside the chamber  outside the chamber to monitor and control the apparatus SOX meeting, 14th May 2014 L.DiNoto - INFN Genova

  4. The mass flow meter (I) sensors The Coriolis type sensor The measuring tubes are forced to oscillate producing a sine wave No flow With flow driver The Coriolis forces cause the phase shift that is proportional to the mass flow rate. SOX meeting, 14th May 2014 L.DiNoto - INFN Genova

  5. The mass flow meter (II) MODEL: EliteSeriesCMF010 Range: 0.005-0.02 kg/s Accuracy: 0.1% It communicates with the DAQ by Serial Interface by Modbus Protocol Two of these are necessary to check water leakage They will be placed outside the tunnel SOX meeting, 14th May 2014 L.DiNoto - INFN Genova

  6. Thermometers with high accuracy • SENSOR: • Platinum Resistance Thermometer Two of these are immersed for 15 cm in two little wells • ACQUISITION DEVICE: • IsotechmilliK • With a 4 wires measurement we will obtain: • Accuracy:0.004-0.005 °C • Resolution: 0.001 °C • Relative error on ΔT < 0.1% SOX meeting, 14th May 2014 L.DiNoto - INFN Genova

  7. Other sensors thermometers with low accuracy • SENSOR: • Resistance Temperature Detector (RTD) • to control temperature inside the chamber: • on the copper jacket • on the inner surface • The bulb will be in contact with the surface • The signals will be acquired by a proper NI Module • With a 3 wires measurements  accuracy 0.05 K SOX meeting, 14th May 2014 L.DiNoto - INFN Genova

  8. Other sensors strain gauge • to monitor the hanging platform sensor • Three of these: one for each support • The signals will be acquired by a proper National Instruments Module SOX meeting, 14th May 2014 L.DiNoto - INFN Genova

  9. Other sensors vacuum system Gauge sensors • inside the calorimeter chamber • in the pre-vacuum zone Remote control of turbo-pump and of the main gate valve They will be bought by Munich group water system Chiller sensors (if necessary) • water level • water temperature SOX meeting, 14th May 2014 L.DiNoto - INFN Genova

  10. Other sensors inside the tunnel Environmental sensors • Geiger counter • Thermometer • Barometer • Hygrometer Other • Web camera • Proximity sensorsnear the rails for detecting the final position of the calorimeter and the trolley SOX meeting, 14th May 2014 L.DiNoto - INFN Genova

  11. The acquisition system in a simple way CALORIMETER sensors Sensors in the tunnel CompactRIO • Thermometer • High Accuracy • Thermometers LowAccuracy • Vacuum gauge • Strain gauge Mass flow meters CompactDAQ SOX meeting, 14th May 2014 L.DiNoto - INFN Genova

  12. The acquisition system in a more detailed way SOX meeting, 14th May 2014 L.DiNoto - INFN Genova

  13. The National Instruments chassis • CompactRIO • has an embedded CPU • saves temporary data • communicates with PC by Ethernet It will be on the trolley inside a IP66 certified box • CompactDAQ • acquires analog or digital signals from the tunnel sensors • communicates with PC by USB port It will be outside the tunnel near the PC SOX meeting, 14th May 2014 L.DiNoto - INFN Genova

  14. Conclusions… All the main sensors and the cRIO system have been ordered!! … and time table • Test sensors and set up the DAQ system by July • Define the emergency proceduresby July • Assemble the DAQ systemon the calorimeter at Munich by October • Test and calibrate the apparatus with the mock-up source by January • Transport the apparatus to the LNGS !! SOX meeting, 14th May 2014 L.DiNoto - INFN Genova
