  3. Hospital Member We also work with hospital IT services to establish institutional accounts for general on-site access to hospital resources.

Benefits of ADL Membership • Collections: • Core collections for key clientele • More resources for the price – Economy of scale • Site license purchasing / cost-sharing • Centralized Electronic serials management • Fully developed, customizable digital library interface • Technical troubleshooting / online help desk • Remote access for all users • Usage statistics • Future endeavors • Federated search • Collaborative tools • Point of care products

What we do for libraries Technical Development: • Web Infrastructure developed and managed by AHEC ILS • Develop web user interface • Remote access / proxy services • Set up hospital-based intranet access & customize for branding Support for librarians: • Administrative / account management utilities • Provide usage statistics and analysis • Produce promotional materials • Assist with training users • Trouble shoot problems Resources Management: • Lead collection development decisions • Negotiate prices with vendors • Determine the cost-share for members

Membership Types Three types of members: • University affiliated off-campus faculty, medical residents, and preceptors • (resource access covered under university licenses) • Individual health professionals’ memberships • Staffs of 30 hospitals with institutional memberships • cost-share based on hospital size • 30 hospitals - varying in size from 170-1400 beds

Hospital Consortium Members Hospital consortium resources: • Ovid Medline, EBSCO CINAHL, and Pubmed with article links • Ovid Evidence Based Medicine Reviews • Ovid Core Biomedical Collection • LWW Nursing Premier • LWW High Impact Journals • New England Journal of Medicine • Stat Ref textbooks

Final Comments • UNC and AHEC support is based on a statewide mission of public service and community support, which is critical to success of the ADL • Hospital librarians make the consortium successful • While the consortium pricing per member is cost effective, it is still a challenge to meet the huge annual price increases incurred from the vendors and publishers. • Our future lies in creating more value-added services beyond purchasing licensed resources.
