    1. Adobe Fireworks CS4 Revealed Chapter 2: Working With Objects

    2. Chapter 2 Lessons Work with vector tools Modify multiple vector objects Modify color Apply filters to objects and texts Apply a style to a text © 2010 Delmar Cengage Learning

    3. Understanding Vector Objects Benefits of working with vector objects You can modify the properties of vector paths at any time without affecting image quality Shape, size, fill, stroke Once an object is created, you can use an array of features to transform it into an interesting graphic Combine objects Adjust object alignment Change a path’s color Adjust stroke appearance © 2010 Delmar Cengage Learning

    4. Work with Vector Tools In this lesson, you will Create an object using the Pen tool Use the Pen tool and the Line tool to modify a path Use the Subselection tool to modify an object © 2010 Delmar Cengage Learning

    5. Understanding Vector Tools and Paths Vector objects can be used for Straight path Curved path Combinations of straight, curved, open and closed paths Path segments Connect to anchor points of a path Can be open or closed © 2010 Delmar Cengage Learning

    6. Understanding Vector Tools and Paths The points of a path do not connect The start and end points of a closed path DO connect Free-form paths can be drawn using Vector Path and Pen tools The pen tool creates a path one point at a time The Vector Path tool creates a path in one motion A vector object’s path is always editable © 2010 Delmar Cengage Learning

    7. Understanding Vector Tools and Paths Curve points are the circular points on a path with curves Circle, ellipse, rounded rectangle Corner points are the square points on a path that has angles or is linear Square, star, straight line © 2010 Delmar Cengage Learning

    8. Understanding Vector Tools and Paths When you edit a vector object Add, delete, or move points along the path Adjust point handles Change the shape of a path segment © 2010 Delmar Cengage Learning

    9. Understanding Vector Tools and Paths © 2010 Delmar Cengage Learning

    10. Using the Pen Tool and the Subselection Tool You can delete points on a segment using the Pen tool Modifying the number of points on a path allows you to create the exact shape you want Adding points allows precision Deleting points simplifies a path’s editability Use the Subselection tool to Move points on a path Select points on an object that have been grouped Create a curved point © 2010 Delmar Cengage Learning

    11. Using the Pen Tool and the Subselection Tool Point handles Visible when you edit a curved path segment NOT visible when editing a straight path segment Modify the size, angle of a curve by adjusting the length and position of point handles Pen and Subselection tools can be used to Create and modify point handles on curved paths Convert curve points to corner points and vice versa © 2010 Delmar Cengage Learning

    12. Using the Pen Tool and the Subselection Tool Bézier curve Two-dimensional curves in a vector object Manipulate by dragging the curve handles © 2010 Delmar Cengage Learning

    13. Using the Pen Tool and the Subselection Tool © 2010 Delmar Cengage Learning

    14. Using the Pen Tool and the Subselection Tool Other vector modifications include Vector Path tool Redraw Path tool Freeform tool group Reshape Area tool Knife tool © 2010 Delmar Cengage Learning

    15. Modify Multiple Vector Objects In this lesson, you will Create a vector shape to an exact size Copy an object Align objects and combine paths Group objects © 2010 Delmar Cengage Learning

    16. Aligning and Grouping Objects The Align command allows you to align objects with each other Open the Align panel for more options Align Distribute Size Space Align object’s anchor points © 2010 Delmar Cengage Learning

    17. Aligning and Grouping Objects Group command on the Modify menu Use to configure objects on the canvas Combine more than one object into a single object Vector images, bitmap images, text, etc. Once objects are grouped, you can modify properties of the group as a whole To change any single object is a group, ungroup the objects, make the change, and then regroup them You don’t need to ungroup to edit text © 2010 Delmar Cengage Learning

    18. Combining the Paths of Multiple Objects Six commands for combining paths Join Split Union Intersect Punch Crop © 2010 Delmar Cengage Learning

    19. Combining the Paths of Multiple Objects Join allows you to combine the paths of two or more objects to create a single merged object that includes all the points of both paths If the objects are closed, the new path is a composite path If the objects are open, the new path is a continuous path Split allows you to split apart the paths of two objects that have been joined Not the same as Undo © 2010 Delmar Cengage Learning

    20. Combining the Paths of Multiple Objects The Union command creates a path that is the sum total of all the selected paths The Intersect command creates an object consisting of an area that is common to the selected paths The new path assumes the properties of the lowest object in the stack The Punch option allows the outline of the top object to cut through all of the lower selected images The Crop option allows the shape of the top path to define the areas of the paths beneath it © 2010 Delmar Cengage Learning

    22. Cloning, Copying, and Duplicating You can replicate any object using the Copy/Paste, Clone, or Duplicate commands on the Edit menu. The Copy/Paste and Clone commands replicate the object directly on top of the original object on the canvas. The Copy command places a copy of the object on the clipboard, which you can use to paste the object in other open files or in other programs. You can also use Copy/Paste commands to copy items on the Frames or Layers panels. The Duplicate command offsets the copied object 10 pixels down and to the right of the original. © 2010 Delmar Cengage Learningv

    23. Modify Color In this lesson, you will Apply a gradient to an object Transform an object and its gradient © 2010 Delmar Cengage Learning

    24. Understanding Fills and Gradients Fill is the appearance of the interior of a shape Solid fill Web Dither fill Pattern fills Gradient © 2010 Delmar Cengage Learning

    25. Understanding Fills and Gradients © 2010 Delmar Cengage Learning

    26. Understanding Fills and Gradients You can change gradient colors, including preset gradient colors, at any time without affecting the appearance of the gradient. Edit Gradient pop-up window Color ramp © 2010 Delmar Cengage Learning

    27. Apply Filters to Objects and Text In this lesson, you will Apply filters to objects Apply filters to text © 2010 Delmar Cengage Learning

    28. Understanding Filters The Filters section of the Property inspector includes Effects found on the Filters menu Bevel, emboss, shadow, and glow effects Live Filters allow you to edit and preview changes to them even after saving, closing, and reopening a document © 2010 Delmar Cengage Learning

    29. Understanding Filters © 2010 Delmar Cengage Learning

    30. Using Photoshop Live Effects Photoshop Live Effects Known as layer effects Often operate like their Fireworks equivalents, but with additional adjustment controls When you open a native .psd file in Fireworks, the effects are live and editable, although not every attribute may carry over © 2010 Delmar Cengage Learning

    31. Using Photoshop Live Effects © 2010 Delmar Cengage Learning

    32. Using the Filters Menu The Filters menu contains commands that correspond to many features found in the Filters section Contains fewer effects than the Filters section of the Property inspector Settings cannot be altered once applied Undo, not edit © 2010 Delmar Cengage Learning

    33. Filters and File Size Enabled filters generally increase file size Disabling a filter instead of deleting does not add much to the size Some may decrease file size Blur, Blur More, Gaussian Blur Fewer colors means smaller files © 2010 Delmar Cengage Learning

    34. Understanding Transparency Transparency Can change the look of an image by varying opacity settings Adjusted in terms of percentage Transparent = 0%, Opaque = 100% © 2010 Delmar Cengage Learning

    35. Using the Measure Tool The Measure tool is a calculating tool located in the vector shapes tool group in the Tools panel. You can use it to create precise measurements on the canvas, which can be very helpful when accurate distances are required. The tool does not draw a shape, but it measures distances by height, width, or on the diagonal. © 2010 Delmar Cengage Learning

    36. Apply a Style to Text In this lesson, you will Align objects and apply a style to text Create a custom style © 2010 Delmar Cengage Learning

    37. Using Live Styles and the Styles Panel Live Styles contain Preset font Color Stroke Effects attributes Can be applied to objects and text © 2010 Delmar Cengage Learning

    38. Using Live Styles and the Styles Panel Categories are found in the Styles panel Some for text, some for objects (including buttons) © 2010 Delmar Cengage Learning

    39. Using Live Styles and the Styles Panel Styles panel Opens to Current Document category by default Shows thumbnails of every style you’ve added Managing styles Styles section of the Property inspector Customize or create a new style using the New button in the Property inspector © 2010 Delmar Cengage Learning

    40. Using Live Styles and the Styles Panel Modify a style in the current document Changes only affect object in the current document Redefine Styles button applies changes to other objects with that style It is possible to permanently modify styles in the Styles panel, so it’s best to only modify styles in the current document © 2010 Delmar Cengage Learning

    41. Using Live Styles and the Styles Panel Clear Overrides button Reverts to the original style before it was modified Break Link to Style button Removes the link to a style Delete Style button Deletes the style © 2010 Delmar Cengage Learning
