3. Clipboard • Windows operating system included the Clipboard • Originally the only way to transfer data between applications • Clipboard could only contain a single object • Clipboard stored in memory and erased when computer is turned off

4. DDE Dynamic Data Exchange • Improvement made in the Windows operating system environment • Useful for sending commands and data between applications • A connection is made between the source and destination applications at runtime

5. OLEObject Linking and Embedding • Newer technology than DDE • Exchanges objects, not limited to data and commands • Better performance • Useful for creating compound documents • Choice of embedding or linking objects

6. ActiveX • Newest sharing technology from Microsoft • Nnow refers to a wide range of communication techniques where an application makes its capabilities available to other applications • All Office 97 applications are ActiveX servers
