GBK Geometry

Join us in today's lesson on similar triangles and geometric growth. Follow along as we explore the concept of geometric growth through creating right triangles on paper. Extend sides, make perpendiculars, and continue the process to discover the unlimited potential of geometric growth. Dive into the world of mathematics with engaging activities and puzzles. Don't forget to complete your homework and journal tasks for a deeper understanding of the concepts covered in class. See you in the next lesson!

  1. GBK Geometry Jordan Johnson

  2. Today’s plan • Greeting • Review Asg #71: Ch. 10 AR, Part II (p. 426): • 1-25 odd. • Lesson: Similar Triangles & Geometric Growth • Homework / Questions • Clean-up

  3. Geometric Growth • Make a right triangle like this on a blank sheet of paper:

  4. Geometric Growth • Extend AC to the right, across your page.

  5. Geometric Growth • At B, make a 90° angle back down towards AC. • Extend the angle’s side so it intersects AC.

  6. Geometric Growth • At that intersection (D) draw a ray upwards, perpendicular to AC.

  7. Geometric Growth • Extend AB to meet that perpendicular: If you keep doing this – going down to AD then upwards, perpendicular to AD – – then how many triangles could you fit on one page?

  8. Geometric Growth • Continue this process of making perpendiculars, extending AB and AC as needed, ‘til you run out of paper.

  9. Open Puzzle Each digit is replaced by “X” American Mathematical Monthly, April 1954. Contributed by P.L. Chessin.

  10. Homework • Journal #24 – do it now. • Asg#72: Ch. 9 Lesson 5 (p. 367): • Set I Exercises 4-14, 19-32. • Bonus: Set II Exercises 48-51. • Due Monday, 5/6. • Asg #73: Ch. 11 Lesson 1 (pp. 428-429): • Set I Exercises 1-4, 6-7, 15-19. • Set II Exercises 32-37. • Bonus: Set III. • Due Tuesday, 5/7.

  11. Clean-up / Reminders • Pick up all trash / items. • Push in chairs (at front and back tables). • See you tomorrow!
