Renowned for its comprehensive international coverage, EMBASE now contains more than 9 million records from 1974 to the present from over 4,000 journals; approximately 450,000 records are added annually. Over 80% of recent records contain full author abstracts.

They have been used in EMBASE since 1988. Search for these associations by using a hyphen between the index term and the link term or as independent terms. For example, the search cardiovascular-surgery in su retrieves records that are about surgical aspects of cardiovascular.
