2. Allies • Were The United States, Great Britain, France and other countries fighting the the Axis Powers.

3. Axis Powers • Were Germany, Japan and Italy along with other countries fighting in World War II.

4. Battle of Stalingrad • Was a major defeat for the German army as it had attempted to knock the Soviets out of the war and secure their oil reserves.

5. D-Day • Was the day the allies launched their invasion of Northern France on June 6, 1944.

6. Holocaust • Was the systematic and state sponsored attempt to annihilate Europe's Jewish and other deemed undesirables populations.

7. Battle of Midway • Was a major battle in the Pacific which stemmed the tide of the war in favor of the allies.

8. Battle of Okinawa • Was a major battle in the Pacific and the last of the outer islands in the defense of japan.

9. Manhattan Project • Was the united states’ secret project to develop and build the atomic bomb.

10. 1 • The German Army tried to secure the Soviet Union’s oil rich caucuses region and worked to defend its major sources of supply, the Romanian oil field Japan set out to capture the Dutch East indies a region rich in oil.ds. Those fields became the target of allied bombing raids.

11. 2 • Forcing Germany to fight on two front would reduce the pressure on the Soviets on the eastern front. The allied adopted this strategy on D-Day with the invasion of France. And to a lesser extent with the invasions of North Africa and Italy.

12. 3 • Americans were shocked, outraged, disgusted, etc.. Upon discovering the Nazi atrocities.
