  6. Can’t fix it? Tell someone Who do you report to? • Tell your line manager (team leader, supervisor, manager) Is it a safety or health matter? • Participative approach • Wider involvement if necessary • Matter resolved • Communicate outcome • Record resolution of matter • Notify safety and health committee • Communicate to workforce

  7. Matter not resolved? Is there a site procedure for resolution of safety and health issues at the workplace? Yes? Then follow it!

  8. Producing a site procedure – where to start?

  9. Is there a safety and health representative? Yes Resolved? Communicate outcome Not resolved? Refer to safety and health committee Employee notifies employer and SHRep OR management notifies SHRep where management identifies an issue Employer and SHRep or authorised representative discuss issue

  10. Is there a safety and health committee? Yes Resolved? Communicate outcome Not resolved? Serious or imminent risk? Employee notifies employer and S&H committee OR management notifies S&H committee where management identifies an issue S&H committee discuss issue

  11. Is there a safety and health representative? No Resolved? Communicate outcome Not resolved? Serious or imminent risk? Employee notifies employer OR employer notifies employees Employer and employee representatives discuss issue

  12. Matter is not resolved and there is ... • No relevant procedure • No safety and health representative • No safety and health committee Does the issue pose a serious or imminent risk? • Safety and health representative, employer or employee (if no SHRep) may notify Resources Safety • Supply sufficient information so inspector can understand issue

  13. Remember Issues are more likely to be resolved in the workplace than at the regulator
