How to act at recess • Be proactive (think about how you are going to act before you go out) • Be nice to one another • Play fairly (take turns, share, etc.) • Get along (think win-win) • Be a leader…but not bossy! • Report mean or unkind behavior that happens • over and over again to a duty/teacher • Be a friend to everyone…even if they are not a • friend to you • Use appropriate language • Point out differences in a nice way • Be flexible (it doesn’t always have to be your • way) • Stay where a duty/teacher can see you at all times! • Only play in the designated recess areas • Be safe on the equipment and with one another • Be respectful to grown ups and to each other • Be responsible by lining up on time

How to act before and after school • The same rules apply before/after school as at recess • Students should be west of the baseball diamond and south of the relo • Students eating breakfast should follow the cafeteria rules • Kindergarten students may stay within their playground area as long as they are • being watched by a parent or an adult • No students should be in front of the school (except for safety patrol) • Students should not arrive at school before 8:15 a.m. • Students should not be at school after 4:00 p.m. unless they are with an adult or • attending a program • Use clean and appropriate language – report bullying to a duty/teacher • Students in line for the bus should follow hallway expectations (single file, indoor • voices, KYHFOOTY, be kind and respectful, etc.) • Students being dropped off or picked up should get out of an into the car south of • the main entrance • Students and parents should always use cross walks • Students should remain outside before school (unless eating breakfast) until the bell • rings and their teacher comes to get them

How to act on the bus and at the bus stop • The same rules that are in the classroom are the same rules on the bus • Remember to KYHFOOTY • Sit in your assigned seat • Use clean and appropriate language • Obey what the bus driver tells you to do the first time you are asked • Use an indoor voice • Be respectful, kind and nice to one another – report bullying to the bus driver • Remember: Riding the bus is not a right, it’s a privilege and can be taken away • Line up single file and enter/exit the bus in an orderly fashion • If you have younger brothers and sisters, make sure they are obeying the rules • If students are misbehaving at the bus stop, report it to the bus driver or your • teacher

13. How to act in the community • Remember: No matter where you go, you represent our school. People judge our • school by how you act. • No bullying, saying mean things, gossiping or spreading rumors • No stealing or “borrowing” things that aren’t yours • Use clean and appropriate language that someone with an education would use • Be a leader: Volunteer, help others, do service projects, do good in the community • Be a good example to your brothers, sisters and friends • Follow through on your commitments – do what you say you’re going to do • Be a good citizen by obeying the law and reporting criminal activity • Do random acts of kindness and “pay it forward” • Take good care of yourself by getting enough rest, eating right and exercising • Treat others how you want to be treated

14. The 7 Habits Next year, we will be learning how everyone can be leaders. To help us have a safe and enjoyable school, your teachers will be talking about the seven habits that will help you develop your leadership skills. The seven habits are below: Be Proactive – You’re in charge of you! Begin With The End In Mind – Have a plan! Put First Things First – Work first, then play! Think Win-Win – Everyone can win! Seek First To Understand, Then To Be Understood – Listen before you talk! Synergize – Together is better! Sharpen The Saw – Balance feels best!
