  2. Goal: revive traditional use and teachings of asehmaa

  3. Asehmaa is the messenger

  4. that carries our words, thoughts, and prayers to the creator.

  5. Our prayers are powerful. Each day we offer asehmaa

  6. to the Gitchie Manitou, the Mishomisanawn, and the Nokomisanawn.

  7. Our medicine plants become stronger, our water cleaner and

  8. we continue to thrive as Anishinabe,

  9. the indigenous people of this land.

  10. Our process for creating the garden: • Brainstormed potential locations – Elders Lodge • Elders Lodge management approved • Elder residents consulted • Garden space tilled • Rows and mounds created • Compost collected and spread on garden • Planting done by all volunteers with Elders present • Weeding • Fence installed • Weeding • Harvesting **continued watering and love by Elder residents
