  2. Have you ever heard yourself say?... I can't find my notes, quiz, homework... I was absent last week, did I miss anything? It's in my locker, my bookbag, my room... somewhere...?

  3. Science Notebook Your INB is the ANSWER!!!

  4. Science Notebook What is an INB? • The purpose of your interactive notebook (INB) is to collect, record, and organize your science information in a creative way, all while creating a PERSONALIZED DIARY of your science learning. • This notebook is designed to use both your right and left-brain hemispheres to help you SORT, CATEGORIZE, REMEMBER, and creatively interact with the new knowledge you are gaining. • Your INB will also serve as a great tool to help you stay ORGANIZED. • The best part is that it gives you permission to be playful and CREATIVE in your responses without "messing up" your notes. • Allows you be like a REAL SCIENTIST!

  9. Science Notebook What you will need EVERYDAY: • One COMPOSITION Notebook with 100 pages • 3 Glue sticks or rubber cement • Erasable Pens/Pencil • Colored Pencils ONLY!!! NO MARKERS, NO CRAYONS (they bleed!)

  11. 1 2 8/8/11 How to use my INB 8/8/11 How to use my INB The notebook is divided into TWO sections. • LEFT SIDE = ODD PAGES • Each day you will write the CRCT sponge for the day and answer it. This assignment is done at the beginning of class as a warm up • Diagram/Drawings/Pictures • Foldables • Mnemonic Devices • Reflections • Questions from the day • RIGHT SIDE = EVEN PAGES • Notes: including any handouts given by the teacher for PowerPoints or guided notes • Lab procedures • Worksheet Assignment • Textbook Assignment • Study Guides

  12. Notebook Supplies: What you need EVERYDAY Erasable pens & pencils 100 Page composition Notebook Glue stick (several thru the year) colored pencils NO CRAYONS! They transfer! NO MARKERS! They bleed through!

My Name My Grade Science Notebook Getting Started: Step 1 For the front of your INB… • The name of the course: 7th Grade Life Science Interactive Science Notebook • Your name:(self explanatory) • The class period that you have science: • Ex. Period 1 • Your teacher:Mr. Willard • The school year:2011-2012 • TWO OR MORE SCIENCE PICTURES: • You can draw, get them from a magazine or print from the Internet.

  15. Author Page You will create your author’s page on the inside of the front cover of your INB. It should be neat and creative! • Choose one word from the IB Learner Profile Pillar that describes you. • Choose two more words from the IB Learner Profile Pillar that describe traits that you would like to work on for the year. • A picture of you. • Include pictures of things that describe you (such as your hobbies, favorite sports, or other interests).

  17. Get Started! Now that you have the instructions of what to do, begin designing you cover page and author page. You will turn them in at the end of class and I will pass them back out to you tomorrow. Remember to bring your notebook and all other materials tomorrow as we put is all together!

  18. 2 Getting Started: Step 2 Starting with the 1st page, number the first 50 pages. The 1st page is 0 (zero) – EVEN numbers will always be on the RIGHT and ODD numbers on the LEFT. Number at the TOP OUTSIDE CORNER of every page. Inside front cover TABLE OF CONTENTS 1 TABLE OF CONTENTS TABLE OF CONTENTS 0 AUTHORS PAGE “ALL ABOUT YOU PAGE”

  20. Table of Contents: pages 0-4 Divide each page into 3 columns: Date, Description, & Page(s)

  21. 5 6 7 8 Syllabus Science Root Words INB Guidelines Lab Safety Contract Getting Started: Step 4 On pages 5,6,7 & 8, write today’s date, write the appropriate titles and glue in the appropriate sheets.

  22. Now go back to your Table of Contents and fill it in!

Notebook Rules: • Your INB should only be used for SCIENCE CLASS and COMES TO CLASS EVERYDAY • DO NOTRIP OUT, TEAR or “DOG-EAR” pages • Each page should have the DATE, PAGE# and TITLE • All handouts MUST BE GLUED IN! • Write ALL entries in the Table of Contents • Please don’t DOODLE unless it relates to science • BE COLORFUL & LOVE YOUR NOTEBOOK

Homework: • Make sure you have your TITLES at the top of each page to help you to remember what you need to PASTE • Complete your AUTHOR’S PAGE and the COVER of your INB. • Number your pages 1-50 • Complete your table of contents with the information we have put into our INB’s so far. EVERYTHING is due MONDAY for a notebook check.
