  1. Lily Lipid and Friends… ‘The Journey to the Anus’ Join Lily and friends as they embark on an EPIC journey around the digestive system

  2. The Beginning I had a pleasant stay of 20 hours in the nucleus of a gazelle’s red blood cell and had made many new friends including Stephanie Starch and the twins Penelope Protein and Patricia Protein. All seemed to be going well, until… “Lily Lipid look!” Penelope and Patricia Protein both shouted. “What?” I yelled back. “A Lion is eating us ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!” We woke up Stephanie Starch just in time, and informed her just in time that we were about to be ingested, which was lucky as just a few seconds later we entered the Buccal cavity or ‘mouth.’

  3. Ingestion As I got inside, I immediately began to feel the effects of Physical digestion, as we slowly started to be masticated. Stephanie Starch had obviously become intoxicated and she was attacked by Adrian Amylase, luckily Glenn Glucose was there to save her, and she quickly married him as she became Stephanie Glucose. Meanwhile myself, Penelope and Patricia were bitten and cut by Incisors, torn and pierced by canines, and chewed and grinded by pre-molars and molars…

  4. Peristalsis … Finally after a pummeling I regrouped with the Protein twins in the bolus that had been made by the tongue. “Trust Stephanie to become a Glucose, typical” Patricia said jealously (she could never become a Glucose.) We didn’t have much time for chit – chat however, as we felt ourselves being thrown down the Oesophagus by the tongue, and were instantly squeezed further down the Oesophagus by Peristalsis.

  5. THE Stomach “Finally, a rest.” Penelope uttered, totally relieved. We had made it through the cardiac sphincter and were now nestled in the warm, moist stomach. We could tell that the pH of the stomach was about 2 due to the Hydrochloric Acid present there and Patricia had about 2 or 3 hours to say her goodbyes as she was slowly digested by our old friend Peter Pepsin. Patrick was a kind old man and introduced Patricia to a young Amino, named Anthony. Sure enough, she quickly became an Amino.

  6. THE PANCREAS Our long wait in the stomach ended as we exited the pyloric sphincter, but I was happy to still have Penelope with me as we entered the Pancreas. It was there that we met a gang of Lipases: Lizzie, Luke and Liam. Amylases: Arnold, Alex and Adrian, and Proteases: Pamela, Percy and Patrick. They made up ‘the Pancreatic Juices’ as they called themselves, and they began to digest me and Penelope, the Proteases took Penelope and the Lipases took me while the Amylases gathered and watched. Fortunately, I met George Glycerol who was a nice guy and I was happy to become his partner as a Fatty Acid.

  7. FROM THE SMALL INTESTINE I didn’t finish my journey, as I was absorbed at the small intestine, but I kept in touch with all my friends along the way including Andy Ammonia, Francis Faeces, William Water, Samantha Salt and even lost old Colin Cellulose! And they informed me of their journey…

  8. From the small intestine According to my friends, they remained for a long time in the same place after I left, but after the small intestine they went past the Caecum, turned right at the Appendix, and found themselves at the ‘Ascending Colon’, which is part of the Large Intestine. They went reasonably quickly from there, with very little absorption in the large intestine – through the transverse and descending colon, before being stored at the rectum, where some of my friends were defecated as Faeces! Which Francis enjoyed.
