  2. Introduction • If you want to know what the Iditarod is? Well, it is a dog sled racethat started in 1973. It started when twolittle kids were sick with Diphtheria.There parents called the doctor. Thedoctor said he didn’t have the medicine, but the doctor’s in Nome Alaska did.So, they started a dog sled race from the village to Nome.

  3. Musher • Anna Berington • Bib number: 39 • 31 years old • Born and raised on a farm in Wisconsin • Hometown Kasliof

  4. Dogs • Anna started with 16 dogs and finished with 12. • Anna uses huskies and German Shepards. • She uses calls and each dog gets a harness to keep them in place. • The dogs wear booties and some wear light coats. • The dogs are fast and are loved.

  5. Routes and Checkpoints • This years the routes are a little different because they usually start in Anchorage, Alaska but Anchorage didn’t have a lot of snow so they pretended to start there. • The Iditarod started in Fairbanks, Alaska. • Iditarod ends at Nome, Alaska. • It is 1049 miles. • There are 10 check points, not including Nome.

  6. Awards • The Red Lantern award is given to the musher who finishes in last place. • The Rookie of the year award is given to the best Rookie in the race. • The Sportsmanship Award is and award that the musher's vote on and is given to the musher with the best sportsmanship.
